There are Pro's and Con's to each.

It all depends on how much you weigh (or want to lose) and how much you are willing to change your lifestyle. I have the sleeve and personally, it has worked wonders for me. I have not had any issues with malnutrition or lack of Protein.

However, when it comes to the scale and how slow it has been moving, I sometimes wish I would have gotten the bypass. But it is moving again. I just had to make some changes in my workout routines and drinking more Water.

Personally, I love Sleevie. She is great. And since I have the sleeve, I can talk positives all day. But hopefully, someone who has had Bypass surgery can tell you the wonderful side of it.

Thank you so much for your experience and feed back I appreciate it . I have 120 lbs to lose . Have you experienced any heart burn? See I have heart burn now but I am staying away from spicy food and greasy food so I don’t experience heart burn now .

I had heartburn, every time I had spicy food, chocolate or soda. Since losing the weight, I can eat spicy food but I have not had soda. My chocolate intake is more of a dark chocolate now. I have not had any heartburn. If I eat too much, I get a foamy feeling in my throat. If you are looking to lose 120 lbs. It is possible with both the Sleeve and Bypass. What is your current weight if you don't mind asking.

I was having the same debate in my head.

I am going for the sleeve in 10 days!

I think the bypass is more invasive so that was a little much for me - but a lot of people think if you’re going to have a procedure and you want to see results (about 70-80% excess weight loss with the bypass vs 60-70% in sleeve) then bite the bullet and go for the bypass.

My surgeon also told me that dumping syndrome happens with all bypass patients whereas with the sleeve it’s much fewer. I also know the nutrient malnutrition is more of a risk with the bypass.

To be honest, I’ve heard really good things about the bypass but 120lbs doesn’t warrant the necessity of the bypass (if you were wondering if the amount of weight sort of needs a specific surgery)

The heartburn is a good question - I’ve heard that the bypass is actually a so called “cure” for any bad acid reflux and the sleeve can make it worse. If I were you I would look into the anti acid medications that will be available to you post op, in the long run. Many people I spoke to who got the sleeve done and had bad heartburn pre op said they take a preventative anti acid tablet in the morning along with their Vitamins and they’re absolutely fine during the day. Others say they need to eat tums or whatever if heartburn does strike during the day. It’s all down to what you’re willing to endure personally (and if the hassle of it all might be ok or not) and your circumstances regarding medication etc.

Depending on your personal inclination I would go with whatever you feel more confident and comfortable with the surgeons changing inside you.

I hope I helped you! I may be slightly biased because I chose the sleeve but this was sort of my process. My mum is a doctor so we spoke through the internal changes at great length!!

Good luck [emoji4]

I am Mexican and to try to not eat spicy is so hard but I have avoided it and have stopped drinking soda and only Water to get myself prepared. I weigh 244.2 .

Thank you yes this has really helped I really think the sleeve is better because of the fact they don’t touch your intestines. Also because it’s less surgery time too, I just want to be healthy and live the life I always wanted but the weight has stopped me from . Thank you for responding to me .

Hi
I had bypass and was super easy with 5 very small incisions (about 1/2 inch). Bypass eliminates heartburn and maximizes weight loss which is why I chose it.

Recovery super easy - gas pain was a bit much for a day or two but then was just learning how to eat slow and in small amounts, liquids etc.

If you have specific questions, happy to answer!

Good luck with your decision

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
