Hair loss - when does it stop?!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I’m 5 months post op SIPS (modified DS) and 110 lbs down. I’m loving my tool, but Hair loss has become a reality this month...no one else sees it yet, but I sure do. My hairline is getting very thin at the sides! I know it comes back but when? How long does it keep falling out? I take Biosil...anything else I can do?

I am almost 4 months out and I take Biotin every morning. I have really thick hair and don't mind it thinning, but the problem is that the thinning is all up front!
I only wash my hair once a week because I have dry hair. I do not blow dry it anymore. And i put oils in it. I was told that we only lose one hair cycle growth...not sure how long before the next. I feel your pain. Hopefully it will be ok by summer [emoji55]

I’m at 6 months post SIPS, my hair is long but thin and I’m losing tons. I read on one post that lack of zinc is also a contributing factor in Hair loss. My 6 months labs show my zinc numbers have dropped, now I take 50mcg of zinc 4 times a day. I hope this starts helping soon.

I lost hair when I was about 5 months post op. It would come out on my brush and shower. I tried Biotin and Rogaine for women. It didn't seem to make much difference. The Hair loss lasted about 3 months. Everyone is different but not much u can do to completely stop the shedding besides wait it out.

I had really super thick blonde hair. About 4 months out it was shedding, but I liked it better then. It needed that much thinning. By 6 months out, I had lost 50 lbs of the 70 I had to lose, but I had lost about 75% of my hair. It’s pretty pathetic. It would fit in a dental rubberband. I curl it every day and that disguises the loss somewhat. I take every Vitamin and every 2 weeks I get an IV infusion of Vitamins and minerals. I’ve taken 10,000 of Biotin orally too. Nothing seemed to stop it. I hate to lose even one hair these days.

I have this feeling it is slowing down, and I have this feeling that baby hairs are growing in, but I’m still losing. I’ve decided to get extensions. It will help me, because even when I was fat my hair was one of my best features. Now that I am almost normal weight and my face and upper body are looking thin, having pathetic hair is not helping my confidence one bit. Looking forward to the extensions.

It continues to fall out until you are bald. Then your eyebrows fall out. Then they all grow back in purple.

Or...it's like...individual and good nutrition helps. Who can say for sure?

I am guessing your intention was to be funny, but I’m honestly not terribly amused...this feels very insensitive to someone reaching out about something that feels very traumatic.

I read that you have to continue drinking your Protein Shakes. Premier shakes are good. In addition, I take Biotin, Multivitamin, d3, B12, & Vitamin C. I lose hair but not as much. Hope this helps

I do still drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast every day...and meet my 80 G Protein ... I’m doing all of that...and it just keeps thinning

Interesting. Even taking Vitamins? It's amazing how everyone is different with this surgery, what works for one may not work for the other. I also bought Biotin n collagen Shampoo conditioner. I'm trying it all. Hopefully something works for you.

My hair started falling out (at least when I noticed) around month 3 or 4. It stopped around month 8. I didn't take any additional supplements because it didn't bother me that much since it wasn't very noticeable to other people. The Hair loss wasn't in clumps or anything and more even all around so that's why it didn't bother me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
