How exciting for all of us. For those couples doing this together, that is fantastic. I'm doing this with the support of my family and husband, but I'm also doing this because my husband is on dialysis. I would not wish dialysis on my enemy. Now is the time to put ourselves first. This is difficult as a wife, mother, and caregiver, but I have finally realized (with counseling) that I need to take care of myself or I will not be able to help others. I thought I was being selfish, but I was wrong. Improving my health will help my whole family. I highly suggest counseling for all of you. It has helped me immensely. And if you have Netflix, I recommend "The Ward". It follows several people through gastric sleeve surgery and it helped me better understand why the pre-op liquid diet is so important.

Best of luck to all of you.

We're all on a journey to better ourselves together. I have my surgery the 18th however I have been through the educational, nutritional, and exercise programs since my program is so strict since June 2017. I can help answer any questions anybody has and we can always help each other find out answers to questions that might not have a known answer. I cannot imagine how terrifying of an experience it must have been in that airport. It seems as God showed you an answer to your problems and you guys are following through on it. I hope everything goes well and cannot wait to hear your success. My husband is luckily tall and slender however he has been through ALL classes and appointments with me including sitting in with surgeons, nurses, nutritionist, weight loss coaches, therapists, and support groups. We heard about the divorce rate as well and so he decided to integrate himself into my journey so it felt like part of his own as well. I am so proud of you guys for being there to support each other. This will most likely only make your marriage even stronger.

Those who are new to this whole experience learning all that you can now is perfect. So many people go into this ill prepared including only wanting to see the positives and not preparing for the negatives. Watching other's experiences help to prepare for these obstacles and gives you a safety net of knowledge and supportive people to lean on to help accomplish your goals.

I love the community that we have built together on this forum and stand by all of you on your journey's!!!!

Let's not lose touch with each other post op, that is when we will need each other the most for success!!

Thank you! I had no idea Netflix had something on gastric sleeve! I will definitely be checking this out. I'm so sorry for what you guys are going through. Best of thoughts and support your way!

liquid diet day 5!

Hello there April sleevers! My husband and I are on day 5 of our modified liquid diet and we are doing surprisingly well. Whoever would have thought that you could live off of 600-700 calories a day? It’s crazy that our bodies aren’t absolutely freaking out at this point. Guess this is a good sign for things to come. Have anyone else started this process yet?

Curvy,

I'm also on day 5 of my pre op liquid diet. I went into some major carb withdrawals on Thurs and Friday. Not that I had irresistible cravings or anything, just a massive headache and low energy. I added a little fat to the one sensible, low carb meal I'm allowed to have and that seemed to take care of the headache almost immediately.

The one scary thing I noticed, Hair loss already. This morning in the shower I had a very large hair ball in the drain. If this is the start of the hair loss, I think I'm facing baldness. I've been living on Protein, so it's not lack of protein. Maybe I'll invest in a wig.

Does your Protein Shake have enough protein? I’m on day 10 of my pre-op diet. I can’t wait for my surgery on Thursday, 4/5.

I'm on day 5 of the liquid diet and today was a major struggle. I had a headache that would not go away. I broke down and ate 2 scramble eggs. My headache went away almost immediately. I understand the importance of a liquid diet but today was just unbearable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
