Did anyone get their gastric sleeve done in Boston Metro area?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I live in Boston Metro area and am planning to go under the knife to get a gastric sleeve done in near future. I am looking for someone to share their experience of getting the surgery done in Boston Metro area. Here are a few things I would like to know-

1. The hospital/provider, their experience with them

2. Overall cost (pre-op, surgery, post-op)

3. Cash/Insurance coverage

4. How long did they have to wait to get the dates for surgery?

5. Post-op support provided by the provider

Yes. Emerson hospital center for weight loss has an excellent program. Total time was probably 3 months, but could have been 2 (I delayed because of work). The program is fantastic and you can do a free online or in person seminar to get an overview. They are great initially and do a full program with nutritionists etc. post care has been great too with regular follow ups, nutrition testing etc. you get a comprehensive packet covering diet stages and everything else. The program tracks their own stats and complication rates are well below national averages and weight loss is above average. They do hundreds per year and often do revisions if other centers had issues.

Not sure on costs as I was insured and haven’t seen a bill. They do have folks that work with you on costs including insurance and payment plans. I think they may be able to get some aspects covered via insurance for you.

They do have info about each insurance and their requirements so it is worth a call.

I went in Boston (Brighton) at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Dr. Pecque (not sure if I'm spelling it right but it sounds like PQ).

She is fantastic. I had started with Beth Israel Deaconess and they are both good and bad. They have a huge number of people that they take at a time, almost like a class which seemed weird but I have to say they educate you through the entire process.

NOTE: I wasn't sleeved, had gastric bypass but they both do both of these. Not sure outside of Boston.

I used Newton Wellesley and have been very happy. Great program, lots of support and education, and I felt like I was in very good hands. Whole process was about 3.5 months for me, and it was covered by insurance. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
