Frustrating Dr's visit

Recommended Posts

I had a really frustrating dr’s visit today.

It’s been six weeks since my last fill and I had been very restricted for a while and then lost that feeling. I feel as though my portion sizes are creeping up a bit.

Anyway I ended up waiting 3 hours to see a doctor :car: 90 mins in the waiting room and 90 mins in the exam room. The doctor that I usually see was called into surgery, which no one told me until I was on the exam table, in one of those crappy paper gowns that don't cover a thing. So they sent in another doctor from the practice eventually. He then decided that he didn’t want to do a fill since I (get this) LOST TOO MUCH WEIGHT!!! In the last 6 weeks I’ve dropped 21 pounds, and he felt that 3.5 pounds per week was too much and suggested that I add a snack into my menu and it’s ok if my portion sizes get a little bigger..

Part of me feels as though I am being punished for doing well, and I am really worried about not being restricted enough. I am sure this is very illogical but I am miffed about being left naked on an exam table for 90 mins for absolutely nothing.

Oh my gosh - I completely agree with your anger! I hate that doctor's can keep us waiting. We set appointments for a reason! I, for once, would like to actually see a dr at the time that I am supposed to!

When they question me on needing a fill I always tell them that my weight loss is only due to will power and that I'm HUNGRY!! They usually don't say much after that and give me the fill :0)

I'm sorry it went so bad for you ((hugs))

I know that I will not be able to get a fill if I am losing more than 2 pounds per week. This is all in writing on my paperwork.

I figure if I get desparate (did i spell that correctly?), I will put a roll of quarters in my pocket if I have to!

I know, that is sooooooooo bad.

Also, that is totally inconsiderate of anyone to keep a patient waiting that long. I have been known to just leave and reschedule later when I am not so mad about waiting too long. Our time is valuable too!

That would totally piss me off, too. I hope and pray that my surgeon doesn't have that written in policy. I'll have to check in to that. Is there anyway they can check your restriction under fluoro because I've read of cases here where people have lost a lot of weight through sheer willpower and their doctors didn't want to give them fills so they insisted on being tested and they had no restriction. Sometimes the surgeons would give them fills anyway. Just a thought.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
