How many calories?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how many calories people are getting in at this point. I have been banded for 3 weeks today (Oct. 5) and I am getting in between 700-900 calories per day. I eat only about 1/4 cup at a time and still am not hungry. How is everyone else doing?

I am probably eating a similar amount of calories to you nume and I was banded on 10.10.07. I have a feeling that the amount that people can eat at this early stage varies from person to person, for me it is wonderful to see that I am making healthier food choices and eating significantly smaller portions ... I am sticking to mushies at the moment though my doctor had said that I could start adding other food if I felt ready.

I too was banded on the 5th of Oct. I'm eating way more than that. I can easily eat a cup per meal. And with the Protein Shakes in between I think I'm up to 1200-1400 cal. per day. I can't wait to get my first fill and I'm praying it will give me some restriction. Right now I feel like I can eat anything!

Ladies:

Don't feel discouraged. I also had times were I would eat meat. I have had 2 fills, one 4 weeks after and the last one 4 months after. I still had a lot of restriction until I had a slipagge, for which I had to unfill it and fill it back a month later

my doctor tells us that we have to keep our calories between 500 and 800 per day. i could easily go over that, but that is if i make poor food choices. when i make better food choices it is actually hard to get even that much.

Today, I have had my first hunger feeling. I suppose I am healing more now and should start to eat more. I hate the soft feeling of being full that I get and when I feel that way I cannot eat anymore. The coughing and congestion and runny nose that I get persists for awhile afterwards. I am getting in 700-900 calories now but I feel good except for the head hunger. I want to eat more, restaurant eating is a nightmare. Not much choice at this stage.

I was banded on the 5th and I was starving like two weeks out so I went to normal food right away. I can eat pretty normally although some things don't go down too easily and i still cant "binge" as i feel terrible pain afterwords. I ate pretzels the other day and i still hurt. i think it is gas pain. Anyway, I am so looking forward to my fill so I can start losing weight again.

I am eating about 1000 calories a day. My doctor did not tell me to stick to a certain amount. I walk for an hour a day which burns 400 calories. If I only consumed 800 calories I think I would get headaches and feel awful.

This is the first time I heard somebody mention headaches. I had one today and am not generally proned to headaches. I thin it may have been fromnot eating enough. I also felt pretty weak and layed down for a nap. So are the headaches a symptom of not getting enough fluids or food or what?:rolleyes

I've always been able to lose on a fairly high intake - I've rarely dipped below about 1500 per day throughout this journey.

I think to lose well now, I'd have to be eating around 1000 though, I maintain on about 1800 now.

I agree. I was banded on Oct 3rd or 2007 and now have, after 3 fills, a great restriction. I eat proble between 500-800 cals max and mostly on the lower end. Never in my life would I have believed that I could even function on so few cals. but I do fine. If I eat anymore I would have to increase my fat consumption or carb consumption-- and would feel a little sluggish. I concentrate on Protein since I only eat three very small meals and only have limited room. I love that I get full so quickly and it last so long. I'm losing weight steadily but not too quickly. Probably about 3+ pounds per week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
