I'm sorry that you are having such a frustrating time. Some doctors do think they're God. The purpose of a release is just for the doctor to say whether you are healthy enough for surgery. The doctor's personal opinion about the surgery should have nothing to do with it. But I'm sure everything will work out. And it will be worth it in the long run.

Boy, can I relate to your frustration! I've had my share. But I finally came to realize that it's not so much the individuals, as it is the system. It's the system that rewards those individuals for being that way.

Sorry about your short sighted doc. Sounds like he needs to get into some other kind of work. My suggestion about the fax thing? For that price you could have added a fax modem to your computer and faxed for free! Forever! It works, that's what I do.

But in the end, it will be worth it. By the way, tell your old doc from me: "hey Buddy, next time you're out for a walk, hope you don't get run over.......by a speedboat!"

Midnite, does this dr. have an 800 line or an e-mail address. I have better response w/ the email thing, and you don't have to set on hold for 3 hours or be on pins and needles waiting for that return call. You can buy a fax machine for less than $100 at Walmart. A worthwhile investment, for copies of reports, blood tests, referrals, etc.--very handy to have and only cost you the sheet of paper-no long distance charges involved, and you can also use it as a copy machine. Please postpone your banding until you have this sinus thing under control. You are going to have enough problems w/restricition without adding that problem to the equation. If it takes another week or two, then it will work out. In the meantime, have you been able to find out anything about the death rumors on Dr. Spiegel? What they were, what caused them, # of deaths, time frame? Is Spiegel moving to Houston full-time? Many patients would like to know what to expect for their aftercare in the present location.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
