Safe to sleep on stomach?

Recommended Posts

I despise sleeping on my back, but have since surgery. (Monday) When will it be safe??

Also, I am constantly thirsty...does that go away? Waking up with dry mouth!![emoji14]

My surgeon suggests I could sleep on my stomach when I was about 2 weeks out or when the pain in my incisions stopped hurting.

If only!! I was always a stomach sleeper. Not so much now. I'm not sure if it is because of my RNY now, or after my skin removal surgey. There is no way I can sleep on my stomach now. It feels like my skin is stretching out. So now I am a side sleeper. I sleep on my right side if I have gas it seems to help getting rid of it if I lie on my left side. I a one of the old ones but not to much help. Sorry

Thanks for asking that - I had the same question. I was never explicitly told by my doctors not to sleep on stomach, and that's normally how I sleep. I've been getting by using a duvet as a wedge to keep me on my side, and a couple of pillows.

It does make sense to stay off the stomach for at least a couple of weeks. I have my 2 week post op meeting with doctor tomorrow, so I will double check with him and post answer here!

Thanks everyone! Last night I pressed a pillow on my stomach and turned over just halfway. It was a relief, even for 30 minutes

I would think going to the side that doesn't have the stomach removing incision. Clue: probably the one most sore or taking the longest to heal. Would Biotene help your mouth?

I dont know about Bioten, I thought that was just for hair and nail strength?

Biotine is a brand has a of mouthwash, spray and toothpaste for dry mouth. Found with the toothpaste and mouthwash in the store. Different than the supplement Biotin that we take for hair, skin and nails.

Just came back from post surgery check up and I asked the doctor this question. I was just over 2 weeks since surgery; the doctor said that it was fine to sleep on stomach, if it was comfortable. He said that it wouldn't be a problem with the surgery (i.e nothing would burst open). Still some discomfort for me, but using pillow for side support helps - kind of like how I slept when pregnant.

Hoping you find your comfy spot soon - nothing worse than going through all this and getting **** sleep. I slept on my side about 4 days post op because sleeping on my back was next to impossible. Only thing that got me through the immediate post op was sheer exhaustion. I found that, just like another user here said, I would fall asleep on my side and wake up sometimes on my stomach. Your pain level will be the best indicator of whether the position is right for you.

My surgery was on the 15th, and I've been sleeping on my back ever since because it was the only thing that didn't hurt. Now that I'm feeling less pain overall, the night before last I tested out every position I could think of, and each one made SOMETHING hurt. Then last night I was able to sleep kind of partway on my side/stomach for about two hours before it became too uncomfortable. I'm REALLY looking forward to being able to sleep on my stomach, because I hate sleeping on my back.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
