Safe to sleep on stomach?

Recommended Posts

Use pillows or even invest in a body pillow from Wal-Mart or Target. Instead of laying flat draw one leg up and turn as much as you can. And keep telling yourself this will pass, you'll be healed soon. Like my kids Pediatrician told my friend. Few kids start Kindergarten or 1st Grade in diapers or training pants, Junior will get potty-trained. I always thought if she had convinced Junior it was his idea or that there would be a reward in big boy briefs he might have done it sooner. But I wasn't gonna get in the middle of that! Sorrow lasts but a short time but joy comes in the morning. You're approaching the dawn of good health, this is just a bump in the roadway. Keep the faith Hon it's gonna be better day by day.

My surgery was on the 15th, and I've been sleeping on my back ever since because it was the only thing that didn't hurt. Now that I'm feeling less pain overall, the night before last I tested out every position I could think of, and each one made SOMETHING hurt. Then last night I was able to sleep kind of partway on my side/stomach for about two hours before it became too uncomfortable. I'm REALLY looking forward to being able to sleep on my stomach, because I hate sleeping on my back.

Update to this: I was able to sleep on my stomach most of the night, without pain, on March 5. I'd managed for a little while a couple nights before that.

I was told I could sleep on my stomach as soon as it was comfortable for me to do so. I started sleeping on my side in the hospital because I cannot sleep on my back.

Took me 8 days before I could sleep on my stomach, and that’s with some pain getting from back to stomach. For some reason none of the “hug a pillow” worked for me at all, including sneezing and side-sleeping, both hurt a whole lot.

I’m 11 days out now and pretty healed overall. Some ache/twinge stuff but not the sharp stabs mostly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
