Band to sleeve

Recommended Posts

Have had a lapband for 6 yrs. over the last year I have gained back about 35 lbs and also have developed a hiatal hernia that is causing minor issues as of now. My dr said I qualify for the sleeve bc of the hernia and numerous health issues . I’m 56 I’m looking to hear others experiences of. going from band to sleeve such as recovery, difficulty, regrets if any etc. I really want to be sure I’m doing the right thing. On a side note my family and friends think it an extreme thing to do bc I’m now only 35 overweight. But I know I’ll blink and I’ll be 50 over and then 60 and before I know it I’ll gain it all back it’s just a matter of time. I’m scared but tired of the pain and problems I’ve had from a lifetime struggle with obesity so I’m open just as I was with band. Any advice or sharing is very appreciated. tIa

I had my band to sleeve 12-1-17 and it was the best decision of my life I feel 100% better no more Port pain no more throwing up. I'm healthier and happier and my weight loss is going great after 4 years of the band I gained weight back and started having a lot of health issues so doing the band to sleeve was the best decision for me!

I strongly suggest the sleeve, it really makes you feel like you have your eating under control and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Its only been 3 weeks for me and 14 lbs later which is kinda slow but i finally have hope now!!@ go for it girl!!! [emoji16]

I had the band for 10 years. Then started having problems and had to have it removed. I didn't get the Sleeve and now I regret it.. I started gaining weight the minute they took it out. Didn't matter how much excersize or dieting I did I still gained. Needless to say after 9 months of gaining I decided to get the Gastric sleeve. I am schedule for Feb 22, 2018. I wish I would have just done it at the same time I had the band out. So I say go for it.

I had my band out 7 years ago. My surgeon at the time offered to convert me to a sleeve. I declined out of fear.
Now, years later I have regained all of my weight and am pursuing the sleeve I probably should have had when the band failed me.
I wouldn't recommend you wait. It's not a matter of the 35 lbs. It's a matter of all the weight you lost in the first place.

Thankyou. Your post is very helpful That’s my concern too. I’m petrified to have 2/3 if my stomach cut off do I understand the fear part. Can you consider the sleeve now perhaps ?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
