April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?

Recommended Posts

oh, I cant wait to be sleeved! I have been doing a tremendous amount of personal research on the topic of Laparoscopic sleeve surgery. I am learning that surgery is not the hard part. It is the after care that is the real mountain to climb. I understand the surgery analytically. It all makes sense. I have watched about 5 surgeries online on YouTube. My anxiety has dissolved. I am prepared mentally for the liquid stage and the soft stage. I understand that there will be a period when I will only have liquids, and I am ok with that. Actually I read that I can have sugar free Jello along with sugar free juices. I will need to sip the juice slowly. I love cranberry juice and they carry unsweetened at the store I go to. Jello is considered a liquid, that is my take on it anyway. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I’m excited for you! I Think we all have done our fair share of research and some lol. Now it’s just the waiting game and preparing. As much as I think I’m ready I’m sure there will be some stumbling blocks along the way but I know all our journeys will be different. That’s part of the reason why I vlog on YouTube because Id like to go back to see where I am now and where I’m going to be a year from now. Best wishes

You must not be ready for surgery then. Or you must think surgery is the easy way out. You're still going to have to work for the weight loss. You should know this.

No, no, I do not think any of this is an easy way out Sprinkles. I am studying about all aspects of this journey and find it to be a difficult way to go. After surgery I will have a lot of work to do. I am doing this for myself and for my future. Im not doing it for you either, you are not going to be there for me. I realize that in order to make this thing work I will have to dig my heals in and follow the instructions at every phase of this journey. If I have to have a liquid diet for 3 weeks, then I have to have a liquid diet for 3 weeks. If I have to stand on my head and twinkle my toes then I will do that too. I will not complain because I have chosen this journey and approved for this journey. On May 9 I will be sleeved by a surgeon and a Divinci Machine.

If you look at the date of my response it was from when you were asking questions if you can have McDonald's milkshakes. I'm glad you're more informed now though. Good luck.

Hi All, I'm new to this site and forums. I started the whole process back in November 2017. May 7, 2018 is my tentative date for surgery. It has been years in thought. I actually looked into the gastric bypass back in 2013 but was in no way able to deal with it financially at the time. I have been going through everything I need to to lead up to this doing great and no issues whatsoever with insurance or anything. My doctor is pleased with everything and how I'm going about everything, He said I am a model patient and every doctor wishes every patient could be like me. I said so sounds like I will do good, He says, "Your not going to do good, You're going to do awesome with this".

So tell me this. If your insurance pays 80% when does a person have to come up with the other 20%? Will the hospital allow you to make payments? Just asking.

You might want to talk to the hospital first. Also, bear in the mind that your insurance company pays bills in the order received, and you are going to get bills from the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, the hospital and possibly other associated bills from the day of the surgery. If you have a $1000 deductible, and the anesthesiologist's bill is submitted first, you're probably going to owe that in full as it will be less than $1000. If you've already met your deductible then you'll only owe your 20%.

And if you meet your out of pocket max you don’t pay anything! Surgery only cost me $3,000 and I hit that during pre op

Where in Pennsylvania are you? I am in Central Ohio but we have many Keystone staters on here. Mattymatt must live around Philly but he had his bypass this week in a hospital in Delaware. Getting along super good. We had poster on from Pittsburgh last week but I forget his name. Bottom line, welcome to Bariatric Pal. We hope you'll like us, we hope you stay with us and we hope most of all you'll want to be our friend!

You can totally do this! I read, if you get hungry is just to wash your hands. Washing your hands will reset your mind. =)

I gotta try that :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
