April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon told me that she will be using the Davinci Robot to perform my sleeve. I am afraid of that. What is she slips and makes a huge mistake. In addition she will be having a student Dr. assist her. Why me? So she put my surgery off until May 9. I read on here that the final weight is on the day of surgery. That doesn't make much sense. What if you are on the edge like me. I just barely qualify. Meaning my bmi just barely qualifies me. Any thoughts ?

Please don’t worry about having your sleeve with the DaVinci robot......that’s how I had mine done and the incisions are way smaller than those used in a traditional laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. My doctor told me there is less pain using this as well, although I certainly did have pain after surgery.

Also, I was afraid of losing too much weight pre-op and was especially concerned that if my BMI dipped below 35 (I had sleep apnea) that I would no longer qualify for surgery. Well, in the months leading up to a surgery date I actually gained 20 pounds! My pre-op diet lasted for almost 3 weeks and I was able to take those 20 pounds off before surgery.

Definitely something to consider on our liquid diets. Some new flavors and variety could be a good thing! I like options lol. As soon as I get a box I will do a review on my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDS8UYKi9Wu1__0j9qJ8rA I already have my favorites so it would be nice to add more to the list #GoGetYouSome

My Gastric Sleeve surgery is set for April 2018. My journey began in June 2017. I was a go getter from the start and completed everything as soon as I could. I knew I probably drove my doctor's nuts but I was determined to finish this one way or the other. Unfortunately, my drive was not enough and I was stuck waiting on everyone else with long wait lists, not hearing back timely, etc. 10 months later I am getting the surgery.
I cried when I got my surgery date. It all started from one phone call after years of diet, exercise, personal trainers, pills, doctor appointments, before I got the urge to Google possible options. I had never had surgery aside from my wisdom teeth removed and so this was a huge leap of courage. I found out all the requirements, looked up a surgeon and program that could do it, contacted my insurance company found out any other remaining information, verified surgeon and program were in network, and kept on running ever since.
I am terrified for this surgery but mostly its because nothing is certain. I am the type of girl that creates a spreadsheet to clear my mind. I love plans, numbers, details, and viewable goals. There is nothing I can plan with this. I have watched almost every YouTube video out there, done countless hours and days of research, have 2 binders made up organized into tabs and stages, and have kept up to date with many forums.
I however have not really posted to many forums until now. So I think instead of taking this scary, crazy, unbelievable, amazing journey alone, I could be in contact with some amazing people starting their journey's around mine so that I can not feel so overwhelmingly alone during this process..
My husband no matter how sweet he may be is tall, and skinny and will not understand the restrictions I am under. I have told very little people about this surgery and they are to keep it surgery however these friends and family will not be able to understand anything I'm going through.
I love to offer support and am excited to begin this journey with you guys.
Let's be strong and change our lives together!!!!!

wow,u sound just like me,but u might actually have me beat, lol.i research & research & read & read & try to b prepared for any future scenario.i still have to have my official consultation but have been working w/the drs.staff to have everything in that i can ahead of time.i will b self-paying upfront so my surgery date could b as soon as 2 wks after my consult.i have told a lot of friends at wk & some of my clients & most of my family.i have lost 50lbs. the past yr.& have been able to maintain during but so hard to get past that.i have been trying to decrease my BP medicine but w/ new guidlines for drs.120/80 is no longer”good” or acceptable,so my meds were increased,.this is what really prompted me into action & finding an affordable deal.i have gained & lost my whole life & have always been told how pretty my face is & wk w/amazing people who always compliment me ,but i really want this for me,to b healthy & energetic&fit & feel good again& most of all to b able to maintain it for the rest of my life.my son is getting married towards the end of the yr.so this will b an added bonus if i have lost some weight by then.i am sorry for making this so lng but i never post anything anywhere but feel so safe & have so much to say & get out to people that really get what we have all gone thru.i look forward to our continued conversations, support, tips,& comments.thks for listening.

Hey everyone.... Sorry I am not on here very often but I have been very busy with doctor's appointments and etc.... I finally got my series of 3 shots in both knees for my arthritis.... It's still not helping but my doctor said it might take about 3 weeks after the last shot..... Now back to the weight loss, I have gained 3 lbs. [emoji24][emoji24][emoji24][emoji24]. I am so disappointed in myself.... I have 1 more month of Physician Supervised Weight Loss (March 27th), I still have my pulmonary tests on March 8th and follow up with him on March 15th.... I really wish they would hurry up and give me a date for my surgery.... [emoji24][emoji24][emoji24]

Hey Becky,
I appreciate your advice on Premier Protein. I went to Sam's Club today and bought the Premier Protein Shakes.

I hate Protein Powder because no matter how you mix it thry still have a gritty consistency. I heard the shakes are creamier and not gritty.

Sams Club sells the 12 pack of shakes for $16.66. I bought the following:
4 banana and Cream
4 Oreo and Cream
1 Peaches and Cream
1 Strawberries and Cream

At 2 shakes a day this covers me for 60 days and gives me at least 60 grams of Protein a day meeting my minimum.

My surgery is April 18 and my liquid diet technically does not start until April 6 however I'm starting a diet of 2 shakes and 1 low carb high protein meal now February 28. This way if I give in I can pick back up and succeed 2 weeks pre op.

I also want to lose as much as I can pre op so I can have an easier recovery.

My HW was 235 and CW is 220. Lets see if I can get under 200 before surgery. I'm 5 feet tall on the dot.

Heyyyy you’re welcome!! Glad you picked them
Up they are definitely great Meal Replacements. I have one for Breakfast because I normally skip breakfast and it was a good option to keep from overeating at lunch. I’m sooooo happy for you!! Your surgery date is super close! I’m thinking like you...preparing myself as much as possible!

Well, I had my one month check-in with the nutritionist today and in just over four weeks I'm down 13 pounds. She'd initially told me to limit my carbs to just the morning except for veggies with lunch and dinner, so I pretty started doing the Keto diet on my own and apparently it's working quite well. She told me to just keep doing what I'm doing, come back in a month and by the end of April we'll be ready to schedule the surgery. It's starting to feel real...

Junuu. Honey I'm 72 years old, 323lbs and still anxious to have my surgery completed. A little nervousness is fine, you wouldn't be human if you didn't feel that way facing the unknown. How can I help you feel better? What part of it all are you most worried about? I haven't had this one, but I've had several surgeries and c encountered many things in my life. I'd like to think I'm a pretty wise person, so if I can help just ask okay?

I'm new to this but I am scheduled for May as well. I'm terrified as I too hate not knowing exactly what will happen and being out of control scares me ugh. I know I need to do this and I'm working on all the anxiety. I have done so much research and I've not found much negatives but still my brain is worse case scenarios lol of course. More than physical this is such a mental/emotional journey. Good luck to everyone :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
