Change Your Hospital

Kakatlady...you need to get to the bottom of what the therapist said.

There is some huge red flag in that report that is causing the doctors to balk, and you need to figure out what it is, and if it's fair.

Have you tried calling the therapist and asking for a copy of his/her report? It's your medical record...it belongs to you. You could also ask the therapist to discuss his/her concerns about you having the procedure. Maybe there's a misunderstanding? If the original therapist wrote an abridged evaluation...it would help your case. You could ask the therapist what steps you would need to take to get a recommendation for surgery if he/she sees a problem. Ask what specific, actionable things you would need to do to turn it around.

Or, as Apple said... have another appointment with a different psychologist and see if you get a different result.

Things they worry about: past addictions, current addictions, impulsive harmful behavior, untreated depression, unstable relationships, little support, the potential for crossover addictions.

Call the psych and get a one on one meeting....get to the bottom of why you were not approved...so you can fix it and move forward.

So sorry you're dealing with this. Best wishes.

You can also ask the original bariatric program for a copy of your original pysch evaluation. During my pre-op with the surgeon, we went over ALL of the tests he ordered -- they were stacked right there on the table, and a written (and surprisingly long) psych eval report was there, too.

I agree with both @Creekimp13 and @Apple203. I'd go to the bariatric center, sign a release form and stand there until you get your records. Then go to your new center, and sign a form releasing your medical records. You have a right to look that the psych report and to find out why she said one thing and did another.

I'm so so sorry this is so hard!! ((hugs))

The center I went to uses two different hospitals. One in network the other out. They asked me which one I wanted to use. I said dumb question I have to use the in network hospital otherwise I cannot afford to have surgery. Duh! Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
