I have a question on this topic,,I'm not scheduled for surgery until mid march. All the way up to the day I was scheduled for surgery I was being told I would have to do a liquid diet for 7-10 days before surgery. However now I'm being told I only have to be on a liquid diet 24 hrs prior to surgery...has anyone ever heard of this?I thought it was kinda weird

I have never heard of that either maybe your liver is not as fatty because is the whole reason for the liquid in the first place but I say call and ask why it’s your life your body ask questions because if you are getting the Gastric Sleeve it is a irreversible procedure [emoji257]

My surgery is next Tuesday. Im so nervous. Im on Day 2 of the liquid diet and it sucks. Did anyone ever cheat? Not saying i am. But i feel like crap and its only the second day. What did you do to stay on task. What happens if you don't follow it?

The length of the liquid diet depends mostly on your BMI the higher the BMI the longer the liquid pre-op diet.

Not always. Different surgeons have different plans. My surgeon was the 24 hour type. He doesn’t give two weeks to anyone unless you’ve been diagnosed with and treated for NASH (aka fatty liver disease).

liquid diet was worse than surgery in my opinion. Was torture.

Don't cheat.

If you're going to cheat, cheat with Protein, and absolutely no carbs. It's the elimination of carbs that shrinks your liver.

Don't cheat.

it gets easier after your will to live is broken and you give up. For me, this happened around day 3-4. LOL:) Laugh or cry. We laugh to survive.

LOL! I must be stronger willed than you or remedial. It took me pretty much until Day 10 to roll over, submit to the rape, and ask for a cigarette. Damn, I've been a whining little bi*ch!

And as time goes on so little changes, does it?

I was on Optifast for 4 weeks presurgery. Had 5 shakes a day and never cheated once. I knew if I didn’t lose weight at this time my surgery would be cancelled. It want worth it to cheat. Besides cheating on diets is what got me into this mess. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
