So far I haven’t noticed any smell changes. I have noticed that the Protein Drink I was using pre op no longer taste good. It’s bitter. My husband loves it so at least it’s not a waste.

Somehow almost everything tastes different to me now. The Protein Shakes that I used to like I have to force myself to drink. Propel, Crystal Light, and My sugar free half iced tea half lemon aide don't taste like they used to. And Protein Water, forget about it, I feel like it's leaving chunky deposits on the back of my tongue.

Heyyy there, I’ve been a lurkeyloo and just wanted to thank everyone for sharing your experiences! All experiences, the highs and the lows. I’m getting sleeved on Monday the 26th and am feeling all kinds of ways. I’ve been doing a lot of self discovery as well. Trying to figure out why I’ve eaten to stuff my emotions and feelings. This us very much a head game and I want to be as successful as possible! It’s been so good to talk about all of my stuff and hopefully let some of this **** go. So pumped to be able to have this opportunity, this window of time to start over. To retrain myself on healthy eating, habits and portions.

Again thank you for sharing your experiences. Good luck to everyone this week! I’ll be watching and rooting for you!!

I’m doing well. I just came home yesterday afternoon.

Have you been using your belt? That has helped me a lot!

I wish my doctor had given/suggested this abdominal binder belt to me. I really could have used it the first week and a half when my guts felt loose and my stomach felt like it was falling on the floor every time I bent over. My husband even tried wrapping me in an ace bandage. I ordered a binder and it just came today, but I really wish I had it from the start.

Thanks for the info.

Just left my 2 week post op visit with my surgeon! My food worries are OVER! I've graduated to pureed foods or spreads, eggs chicken salad things like that. I'm so excited. No buyers remorse today! My surgeon said that it's still important to focus on meeting my liquids goal and the rest will fall into place. Begin exercise as I listen to my body but hold off on ab workouts. Tomorrow is see the Specialist, hopefully they say the same thing! How is everyone doing, feeling, healing today?

Surgery postponed from tomorrow to Thursday due to impending snow storm here in North East. [emoji17] Great another day to stress.

My abdominal tenderness improves every day, but the incisions itch like crazy.

Good to here someone else still has ab pain...I was beginning to think it was just me.

So, I'm back to work today, two weeks after surgery (6th March). I've been really lucky that my recovery has been without issue so far i.e. no post surgery pain or discomfort to speak of as I write this!

My diet allows me to be back on regular food at this point, but it should be "mashable" or chewed to death before I swallow (probably stage 3 as defined on this site, but my dietician / surgeon don't use that term). That brings me onto where my head is at just now - what does my daily work food routine (snacks & lunch) look like. I'm on the road quite a lot (which is part of the reason my weight went where it did because I was always eating out), so I'm really conscious of starting on the right path and staying there.

There has been a great sense of community and energy in this thread so far and I'd be interested to hear what others are doing as they move through these food phases!

Day 8 -- Protein Shakes and Vitamins start. Holy cow, I made my favorite shake pre-op and just couldn't handle it after a week of diluted apple juice. So I dumped it and made a nice mild shake (vanilla with a mandarin orange) and I am sip-sip-sipping :-) Who knew I'd be excited about a Protein Shake? Perspective is everything. :D ETA: after about 5-6 ounces, I'm stopping because I feel...satisfied. Is this the same as full?? I need to keep learning about my new tummy.

On a negative note, I have a minor rash around my incisions, and my surgeon said to start working the tape off.

Hi there, first check in since I was sleeved on Friday. While I was being sleeved, the small hiatal hernia that was seen in my upper GI turned out to be a big one, so the doc fixed that while he was in there. That extra repair caused me to have 6 incisions instead of 3 so I am a little sore. I am having issues keeping up with liquids as I am scared to drink too much at one time and vomit. Today I am making a concerted effort to do a better job because I don't want to end up back in the hospital. I have noticed the gas isn't bad at all, really didn't have any gas issues. Smells of some regular food are a bit overwhelming and have made me nauseous at times. I am on the liquid diet for 1 - 2 weeks and everything seems to be staying down okay so far. I think when I am getting full that I feel a pain in my chest and that might be a sign to slow it down. Has anyone else felt that as well? I am down 8lbs since surgery weigh in.

I had the same thing!

When I started fluids, I literally set up a timer on my phone and had one ounce every 15 minutes. The next day, I had one ounce every 12 minutes. The next day, it was 2 ounces every 24 minutes. Now its 2 ounces every 20 minutes -- which is perfect for timing four 16-ounce bottles of fluids in-between four Protein Drinks, with 30 minute rest periods before and after the Protein drinks. It sounds a little crazy when I type it out, but it works.

Thanks Aniraclre for posting this! I am scheduled to go back tomorrow as I had my surgery on 3/7. I have the same concerns about eating at work, so if anybody has any suggestions I would be grateful!

I get chest pain, also, when full and if I take a bigger swallow of Water than I should.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
