Was sleeved on March 5th and this is the 1st time I've felt well enough to speak on the experience. I was in so much pain the first few days, drinking felt wierd (it still does) but I think things are manageable now that I'm home. Really starting to think I can do this, a long cry from the regret i was feeling in the hospital. I hope it gets better from here

Glad you are feeling a little better, hang in there you can do this.. Thanks for update

Well nobody asked me but I think I might help someone. Just some quick bullet points.

- Day 1 and 2 prepare to be THIRSTY. Icechips are a joke but they will be your friend for now. You will think you are hungry but that's just your stomach enzymes acting up. You can only sleep on your back. You will be irritable, but it WILL PASS.

- Day 3 and 4 you will be able to get more liquids in. I was going on 500 MLs which was exciting. You can slightly sleep on your sides now.You will hate the smell of food and even seeing it. However you will cherish your Jello, clear Soup, and tea. You need to train your mind and hand to put down the spoon between sips of "food" Use a timer. You will walk muuuch better too. A good way to relieve gas/belching - peppermint oil in water! Helped me SO MUCH. 3-4 drops in Water, miracles happen!

-Day 5-7, now this is when you start to feel much better pain wise. You can do a 360 (slowly!) turning in your bed. Belching and gas goes down a hundredfold. You have internalized your "timing" for sips, like a champ I say. You are drinking 1-2L/day now. You will be fatigued a lot. Make sure to find a way to get electrolytes in your water. Also BUY A CLEAR Protein DRINK! Save your life! Half of it with the other half water. Constipation issues arise - BENEFIBER, trust me on this. Food/smells actually don't make you wanna hurl anymore. Watching food videos is a pleasure - you see the horizon of puree stage coming up next week! Go for a real walk on Day 6 or 7, it will be a PLEASURE.

ANYONE WANNA ADD MORE to help our future March '18 Sleeve Army?

Surgery is on Wednesday. I am so inexplicably nervous that someone is going to pull the rug out from under me and I won't get the surgery -- am I the only one??? I started this process in August, 7 months ago, and the buildup has been intense.

Also with every pound I lose pre-op, DH asks me if I'm sure I want the surgery and its driving me nuts! He means well, he really does, but he's a normal weight and he doesn't get it. Its not strictly about losing the weight, its about finding a strategy to keep it off for the rest of my life.

Day 4 since I was sleeved. Today was a 180 degree turn for me (thank God)! No more nausea, fluids are staying down, only a little soreness on the main incision, less need for naps. Still taking things slow when turning, bending etc but was able to get solid sleep on my side last night. Not craving anything, my mind is consumed with healing vs. hunger so I’m ok with that. Not meeting Protein goal yet but hopeful I will in the next day. Thanks to all of the encouragers and those sharing this journey! New life ahead... no regrets!

WARNING, THIS IS TMI!!

Had my first bowel movement since surgery. I had my prior one the morning of surgery. It was a very painful experience!!! My colon was contracting on its own, working to try and push things out. It literally took 2 hours to finally come out. Once it did it was hard and the thickest most compacted turd i had ever seen in my life but what a relief. I'm sure that had to be 3 pounds.

Thanks for the warning, but it’s real talk. I’m glad you got your poop relief now instead of later. Praying that all continue good for you. Please continue to keep us updated. Thank you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
