Fairly common. Usually attributed to a sudden drop in blood pressure, which can occur from getting up too fast. Of course there are other things that can cause it as well. Does it pass quickly? You could try standing up slower, or moving your position a bit while sitting before standing up. Kind of like trying to signal your body that "hey, I'm getting up now so don't freak out on me."

An ongoing elevated heart rate can be a sign of other issues going on, but if this is only related to standing up then again it's pretty common. This gets asked on a regular basis around here. And as always it never hurts to give your doc's office a call if it continues or has you worried.

I read in another post that dizziness, fast heart rate and difficulty breathing are associated with dehydration. My surgeon also told if I felt any of those symptoms including, fever and chills to go to the emergency room asap. Good luck.

It could be dehydration- I had it after surgery and needed additional iv fluids. Call your doc.

It can also be related to a heart rhythm disturbance called a fib. A fib can be related to electrolyte imbalance. I would definitely follow up with your physician if you feel it again. My friend had her surgery in January and had shortness of breath and rapid heart rate related to afib. She went to the er and was diagnosed and was discharged the next day. They also felt that dehydration played a part in it. She was cardioverted and feels much better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
