Super fast approval! Now all the questions

Recommended Posts

Everything was submitted to my insurance this past Thursday and this morning bariatrics called saying I was approved! I was shocked I wasn't expecting to hear anything for a few weeks. My pre op apt is February 22. So few questions, what's your go to unflavored Protien powder that you add to your drinks /food? I recently tried a sample packet of unjury.. Not a fan lol has anyone tried any of the New Direction products? I like the pre mixed premier shakes out of all the ones I've tried. What does your after surgery intake look like? I know everybody differs but do you go by a eating/drinking log to keep you on track? Set your phone on timers to remind you to eat /drink to make sure your properly hydrated or getting the right amount of Protein? I've been looking up bariatric weekly sample menus to get an idea. Did any of you use compression socks after surgery? I know these are totally random questions but thinking out loud lol the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask right?

Hi, Star. Have you attended any pre-op classes, or were you spared? I'm sure your surgeon will have specific 2-week pre-op and post-op instructions. Everyone has different requirements.

Unflavored Protein didn't work out for me , I tried Isopure but could still taste it another version may be better

I was instructed to track liquids in a log, by time

1/4 cup portions Max in 30 mins when in full liquids (cream of wheat, yogurt )

Used a timer for everything EVERYTHING

KEEP food AND liquids SEPARATED BY 30 MINS ON EITHER SIDE OF CONSUMPTION

I add premier caramel shake to Decaf coffee it's the only way I tolerate the shakes

Lump in my throat was my almost full indicator, never ate past it if I can help it

I start my day with liquids instead of food

I do Protein liquids before others to make sure it's done

No compression socks

Hope that helped

Oh yes lol I've been to 3 of them. Which was great because each class covered a lot of topics

Congrats! Best decision. Ever.

I didn’t do the unflavored protein- i did the premiere shakes ... and eventually shredded canned chicken (it’s like tuna consistency) and scrambled egg whites , cheese stick and Greek yogurts for protein

Didn’t do compression socks— hospital was really fast!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
