I was also banded on the 17th. I got severe back pain on the left side but it didn't happen until over a week after surgery. I called the dr. and he said it was just b/c they jerk on your ribs a little bit and they are bruised. He said take motrin (it can be cut or crushed if need be) 800mg (4 pills) 3x a day for a week. I did it and I feel perfect now!

I have been having back pain too and I was banded on September 14th. I decided to do a search and see if anybody else was having the pain. I thought maybe it had something to do with what I ate. I actually had to use a heating pad a few times. It seems to be frequent. I also had a horrible period this month and I NEVER get cramps and I had terrible cramps in my back that kept me on the couch all weekend with a heating pad. I hope every month isn't like that. I feel for those of you who have always had bad cramps

I was told not to take motrin, advil or any other ibuprofen due to stomach irritation. The only thing I can take is Tylenol, which does nothing for me. I guess if things don't soon get better I will contact my doctor.

It's the gas. Use your pain meds, heating pad, and walk walk walk. I never ceased to be amazed at where the gas could go....like up the side of my neck. OUCH.

I have had severe menstral cramps since first day I started mine (at 12). Every month, it never fails. I have been to the doc. of it and they say oh there is nothing wrong, la de da de da. That may be the case, but should I and others that have these have to suffer. Mine are so bad that it makes me physically sick. They say that women shouldn't have a hysteroctomy until it is medically necessary b/c it can cause other problems, but as you have experienced and now know why a lot of us "wish" we could have one, just to make the pain go away.

About the back pain, I have been having severe back pain a couple of times a week since my surgery. I am only 4 weeks post-op so I hope that it is just a pulled muscle or gas or something like that. I have read a few posts on here that said the tubing of the lapband was laying on a nerve and their doc. just stitched it up to hold it away from the problems area. I hope this is not the case for me. I really don't want any more surgery that is not necessary.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
