11 Months Out, Gas?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 3/10/17, and since December I have had 5 occurrences in which I experience severe gas pain, or so I hope it's gas..This pain is so intense that it takes my breath away and nothing helps it, not walking, sitting, laying, trying to pass gas, gas x strips, nothing, I just have to wait for it to pass. Typically it lasts about 3-4 minutes. The first 2 times it happened it was after I tried drinking a beer, yes, I know, I am not supposed to drink it, so I have sworn off beer forever now.. Last week and today it happened again, after I drank my Premier Protein, which I have been drinking about 4-5 times a week since surgery. Has anyone else had this happen? The pain is localized to right around my ribs...Am I drinking too fast?

I’d get it checked out by your surgeon - it’s possible it’s the start of your gallbladder giving you issues, particularly if it’s more localised to the right side. (Not meaning to worry you)

Thanks for the reply, but they removed my gallbladder when I had the sleeve surgery. I have my follow up on 2/27, hopefully they can help. I just didn't know if anyone else had this issue.

Oh good, that rules that out! Hopefully you can get some answers soon at your follow up :) all the best!

It sounds like a bout of diverticulitis, no joke go get checked out, can be very serious, please have that rules out with simple CT scan. I hope I’m wrong

Any chance youve become lactose intolerant ?

Heavy gas from the Protein Shake + the smaller stomach and it makes a lot of sense why youd be so uncomfortable.

Beer would cause the same issues from carbonation

I would think its something simple like this as theyre often the most likely

And it would be pretty easy to tell if youre lactose intolerant...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
