POST-OP within 8 to 12 weeks: What are / were the healthy foods you're looking forward to eating again post-op?

Recommended Posts

So I'm at 5 weeks and allowed to slowly introduce normal foods - test out each one at a time. But to slowly increase on the texture scale - i.e. no uncooked crunchy vegetables or fruit yet.

Here are my items:

Broccoli - I love broccoli and it's so great for you - but until I feel great about my pouch/staple line not having sections for little pieces of the floret to get stuck, no go.

Green Apples - I know in general you want to avoid sugars and carbs, but I'm looking forward to having a green apple or 2 every week. Seems like perfect size for a meal too.

Medium-Rare Small Filet or NY Strip Steak - This is a big one. Steaks were so perfect for keeping with my low carb diet pre-op - really shrunk up my liver, my surgeon said I had one of the best liver sizes for my weight and made the surgery really easy for him. But decent sized pieces of steak no matter how I chew is a bit hard on my new pouch I think.

What are / were yours? Any you were looking forward to that you couldn't eat?

And here's my one item that I really want that is less healthy, but:

White Rice - Super high in carbs but decently low on calories. I want to treat myself to having a bit of white rice with something like Korean BBQ or Sushi (not sure how I'll eat that respectively to the chef as i would most likely need to cut it up) eventually.

My Foods were:

chicken - I could not wait to have baked chicken that was not in broth.

Tomatoes - I did not like tomatoes before surgery and then all of a sudden, I was craving them.

Pears - I love pears

Corn - I do not know why but I wanted corn on a cob with some butter.

Watermelon - I love them but the seeds were a no go. I did not have watermelon until I was about 3 - 4 months out.

Turkey - I missed having a turkey sandwich

Less Healthy:

Pork Bacon and Red meat. I have not been one for bacon and red meat in general but after surgery, I wanted it like crazy. I got my fill when I tried Keto and now I am back to barely eating it.

I am a Creature of Habit so for me it was eggs, sausage and cheese. I also live the Keto Lifestyle now so these are a Staple of my Diet. Enjoy the Honeymoon because at 4 months out I thought that I had lost the Love for all things Bad and couldn't understand how anyone could gain back any of the weight and now I realize (1Year) that Habits are Habits and unless you truly break them for Good they will always haunt you. I hate the words or even the thought of I can have just one because I know I am a LIAR!!! One turns into 3 and then into 3 servings. HaHaHa after proofreading this I realize I must be in my Feelings this morning.

When I first got sleeved I was just happy that egg whites stayed down! Lol when I was able to actually tolerate more foods I was happy that I could have chicken grilled or baked very soft and I never liked seafood before surgery.... now grilled salmon is my bestfriend. High in Protein and very healthy!

Wow. Bacon and steak I can't live without . At first I hated bacon. Now .. I eat it all the time. That is odd.

salad, fruit, nuts, and popcorn. My main cravings. Maybe someday down the road be able to eat steak again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
