hello, i just wanted to tell everyone, i did have my surgery done on the 11th of jan. i am doing great, i was real sore when the surgery was over with, but i had a lot of support from love ones and they got me through it.

i stayed in the hopsital for a few days only because i had some pain that would not go away because when they gave me my lap band surgery they found out i had a hernia that was starting and they had to take care of that as well, which i am greatful because i got both things taken care of.

i must say i am not hungry, the only problem i found was that watching tv i did not realize how many commericals have food, and it all does still look so good, i need to get my brain intact with my stomach now lol, but i am not hungry, just would like to taste a few things lol.

the one amazing thing is that the day before surgery i weighed my self and i was 242 and today i weighed myself just wondering if the liquid diet so far has done anything, and i already lost seven pounds i am now 235 it was amazing, and i am very happy i did what i did.

i must say that it will be hard about the liquid diet for a while, but i can do this, i have to, i want to be my self again, another good thing now that one of my friends now sees how it is she is calling up there tomorrow to get an appointment to have this done, and i am so proud of her, she needs to feel good about herself to.

well i wanted to just let everyone know things went well, and i can not wait for more weight lose, talk to you all real soon bye.

Congratulations, so glad you got your band and the hernia fixed in one surgery! You're right, I hardly watch t.v. any more, there are so many bad foods commericials. Would that be subliminal advertising? ("Eat food, Eat food.")

I had to laugh about the food commercials, that was one of my first observations no one warns you about. And everything looks soooo good. It will pass. Don't forget the Vitamins.

Congratulations and good luck on your new journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
