Do you chew and spit?

Recommended Posts

People have told me they have chewed and spit out the food if they really want to taste something they know they can’t eat like steak. My friend said she ate steak once and couldn’t eat for 3 1/2 days because she didn’t chew it down right so it took long for her stomach to process it.

Shocking!!! Is this normal? Like a DL thing people do? Be honest please

Hi there..its funny u posted this because the past two days i have done this twice. We went to dinner last night . My husband had some thing fried that he wanted me to taste so I did but didn't want to sallow it so I spit it out and today my mother in law made these delicious looking little sliders so I just wanted to taste it so I ate half of one chewing and spiting... i felt like this is what some girls w. Eatting disorders do.. it kind of scared me in a moment but made me realize I can still taste certain foods just have to watch on swallowing them.. it is kind of crazy though...

I know I claim I'm as old as dirt, but does anyone beside me remember the Saturday Night Live skit back in the Dan Ackroyd & John Belushi days? It was called "Pre Chewed Charlie's" Late husband found it funny to the inth degree, I thought it rather gross. And recently, one of Hollywood starlet-mother's was quoted saying she chewed up food and spit it into, her toddler son's mouth as a way of feeding him.

Thanks for being honest I think a lot more people do it. Cause every person I know that has had the sleeve has told me I know 4 people 3 females 1 male and 2 of them said they do the flatsoda or a little soda with Water that seems to the norm and non of them know each other.

Ditto don't do this.

Steak can be tricky, esp at first. A nice soft filet when permitted, if you are worried chew a lot. Also have the papaya enzyme chewables on hand for any urgency -- a supplement my dietician shared with me that can help break down harder foods.

It is a disorder. It’s not normal behavior for people that have or have not had weight loss surgery. People that do this may need help to stop. Knowing a few people that do this behavior does not make it normal or healthy. I hope you read about it and encourage them to get the help they need.

People just swap one eating disorder( binge eating ) for another. And it's very sad. People don't see the long term effects they don't realise.
A. Calories are still going in.
B. The tummy prepares to digest food that isn't coming and the acid build up can be really bad for the stomach.
It's a shame people think this is something normal.

I can see doing this in the early stages because of cravings, but for it to be a regular thing...no, not normal. I mean I've done this because I tried something, starting chewing it, and then realized "nope this is gonna be a bad idea." Either due to knowing it would give me heartburn or had too much of a fried taste to it knowing I wouldn't feel good after. While I get the idea of doing it and the reasons why it's something that could easily become an issue.

If you're eating steak, you should be cutting it into teenie tiny little pieces at first. Slow the hell down and cut it into tiny little pea sized pieces. Eat a few at a time if you want a bigger mouth full, but consider your safety.

Putting something large in your mouth to chew up with the idea of spitting it out is not only gross...it's dangerous. Yes, doctors DO have to surgically remove hunks of meat that get stuck.

And NO, drinking flat or dilute soda is NOT the norm. There is no one on the planet who loves soda as much as I do....but I understood when I had surgery that it was something I had to give up. Empty calories and insulin spikes are not compatible with bariatric surgery....fizz or no fizz. And who the hell could gag down FLAT soda? Bleh!

Creating "loopholes" to continue extreme habits is bonkers in my opinion.....it's self sabotaging and is a few steps away from a crossover eating disorder.

You wanted blatant honesty...I think what you are describing sounds pathological and should be discussed with a therapist.

My doc's office was (somewhat) okay with patients having flat diet soda after surgery but I could never understand what joy would be had with it. I was a diet Mt Dew junkie prior to surgery and I had no desire to drink it flat post-op. Giving up diet pop is about as big a victory as giving up smoking years ago. Definitely better off without it in my life.

Yeah I think the chew/spit is a bad idea because of the insulin response and the acid secretions. They all happen in preparation for food that never comes and that can wreck havoc.

My surgeon was one who actually recommended flat diet soda if you “can’t live without” and the NUT also suggested getting diet soda steam syrups and adding flat Water.< br>
Yeah... I am thrilled I was able to shake that monkey from my back and didn’t want to leave the door open. Haven’t had soda of any variety since a month pre op and so that’s going on five years in the fall!

Flat soda was actually written in my plan too. I don't drink soda any more really but had one diet Coke mixed with Water and ice the other day when I was out with friends and it was actually nice lol

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
