Researching low BMI?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, i am researching currently. I have been overweight most of my life and remember being self conscious of my size even in elementary school. Anyway I think my highest I was around 250 during pregnancies and lowest I lost 50 or so lbs by working out and changing diet before I got married and got down to about 170. I am currently about 204lbs and really just tired of the constant struggle. My husband and I have lost 15 lbs together recently by watching our diet and I also have a personal trainer once a week. Anyway, I also have depression but wonder how much stems from my weight and self esteem. When i was down to 170 I remember it was the happiest time in my life. To get to my point... I am about 200lbs and a BMI of 35, I had reflux in the past, previous gallbladder surgery but no other comorbities I can identify. Is anyone else in my shoes that has has WLS and been successful? Happy?

Thanks.

The only co-morbidity I had was that my knees and feet ached from osteoarthritis. I had normal cholesterol levels and my blood pressure was great. My BMI, however, was 39, and just like you, I was tired of being overweight. Diets were a short-term fix and then I'd gain the weight back. I wanted to lose the weight so my joints didn't ache with little chance of regain, so my doctor recommended the traditional duodenal switch surgery. I'm 35 weeks (8 months) post-op and SO HAPPY with my decision to move forward with the surgery. My BMI is now 28 and I feel so much better. It's a great feeling to be able to bend over and tie my shoes without needing to hold my breath. I can also shop in normal sizes again. I've gone from a size 18 to a size 12 and looking forward to getting even smaller. I hope to reach my goal in the next few months. - Just 30 more pounds to go. I would highly recommend weight loss surgery. You and your doctor can decide which surgery is right for you.

Thank you so much for the reply! Now that I am older I have noticed it has been harder for me to lose the weight as well as now I get nauseous after I work out. I never did before. I also have two small children and it is important for me to be able to be more active for me. I am looking into getting a referral to get a consult. How was your recovery? Also can I ask how old you are? I am 37 now.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
