@Marissa37

i have the sleeve.

i was never a big soda drinker.

if i did have soda, never any

bad side effects.

More commonly than not,

doc/NUT will tell you not

to drink soda -anything

that has carbonation.

good luck

Trust me [emoji23][emoji23] you will probably only try once - carbonated drinks put air in your stomach - and it hurts especially the first few months - and once something- hurts you- makes you throw up 🤢 or gives you the runs - you tend to shy away from it 🤣

I loved Ginger Ale like no one's business. However, since surgery, I have not had the desire to drink soda.

I had it once a month ago because I was carrying the sodas into the theater and accidentally drank from the wrong drink and with a straw no less. I hated the taste and the straw made me bloated.

Ive tried sips at various points since the surgery and it hasn’t gone well. Once I drank a bunch through a straw right after eating a plain cheeseburger on half a bun and it all came back up.

My plan allows and mentioned flat soda. I tried it once at 6m. Opened in fridge over night half Water half soda in a glass. Was fine. Prefer to do without.

I'm over a treat out and rarely drink soda. It's just not comfortable. I'll badge a few sips here and there every so often but its not with the discomfort or the calories and sugar. I really dont miss it much. I can drink enough to be satisfied but it does nothing but make me sick and angry so i don't bother much at all lol. I like it this way. I have enough temptation issues lol

My nutritionist says it's fine as long as you leave it out a bit to get flat. However, I decided to quit diet coke because it's unhealthy and I think it makes you crave sugary stuff.

The only bubbles I have now are in the odd glass of champagne. I haven't had any problems.

Soda has been a difficulty for me too. I'm still pre-op, but I'm trying to wean myself off it now, per my nutritionist's requirements. I don't think I want to go back to it, even flat, after surgery so I'm trying to find alternatives now. I've only had soda three times in the past month, and I've found that I can't drink it as fast as I used to as it makes me gassy.

Water, of course, is my number one choice and has been ever since I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes 5 years ago. But I'm particular about my water (grew up drinking filtered/purified water, so municipal water has always tasted gross to me), so I don't often drink it when I'm out, and that's my tricky spot. I'm not a big fan of Crystal light as I find it tastes like chemicals (the iced tea flavour is about the only one I can stand). I have found that the Vitamin Water Zero is okay, but it's tricky to find a variety of flavours around here.

You can try making your own iced teas, or flavoured waters to help. Do some experimenting. You might find something that can help you through. Good luck!

Anything carbonated can make you feel bloated and leave you feeling blah. I was a diet pop junkie prior to surgery and haven't had it since. Don't really miss it either. Kicking that habit was about as good a victory as quiting smoking (which I did years ago). There are plenty of other good drink options out there. Leave it out of your diet. You'll be glad you did.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
