Did anyone inject with Lovenox after surgery

Recommended Posts

I have to inject myself daily for 6 weeks with Lovenox because I had cancer and finished cancer treatment? did anyone else have to do this Why did you? And any sideeffects? The best thing I see is that Ill have no worries about blood clots so its like being extra safe cause my body has been through so much I know it will take me longer to heal.

My doctor told me I'll need to do them when I have surgery to make sure I don't get blood clots after... Not looking forward to it but I hear the needles are very small and it's not bad... I think he said I'll only have to do it for like 2 weeks after surgery though...

I had to do this for 2 weeks following surgery twice a day. I did not notice any side wffects besides the brusing on my stomach. I have to say I was very happy when it was over. My Dr. does this as standard protocal following gastric surgery.

Yes......I had to do them for 14 days following surgery. Sometimes they burned really bad for a short time; other times not an issue. Just so glad to be done and grateful that my team wanted to be extra cautious at preventing blood clots.

I had one before surgery and one after. Both in the hospital. The needle didn't hurt but the medicine burned and I bruised.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
