Changingbodies 7 Posted February 9, 2018 So my dietitian and psychologist finally signed off on me to take the pre surgical classes and post nutrition classes! Woohoo its starting to be sureal. Those are my last appointments to attend in march before meeting with my surgeon. Any who i found out we are not required to do the 2 week liquid diet prior surgery. Did any one else not have to do that as well? If so, did your drs tell you why? Idk why but for some reason i was looking foward to doing the pre 2 week liquid diet. kakatlady612 1,053 Posted February 9, 2018 Mine is not so,much worried about last minute forced weight loss with a liquid diet, he'd rather we have a balanced, low carb diet immediately prior to surgery. Surprised me too, I thought he would want the liver shrunk and the bowels relatively clear of fecal junk. Well you know what they say about assume my friends.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Changingbodies reacted to this

elforman 234 Posted February 10, 2018 Having read through this board before meeting with the surgeon for the first time last month, the pre-op diet was one of my biggest questions. He said he doesn't require it. After that the nutritionist at the hospital gave me a booklet with all sorts of directions to follow and that document says I have to do the two weeks liquid diet. Fortunately for me, the doctor told me what he says goes when I checked with him afterward. He said the hospital's guide is good for the post-op regimen it details, but his word is final for pre-op. My BMI is 49, however, my doctor said simply they've been doing these a long time, and have refined their requirements as they've learned what worked well and what did not.
