Eggdrop Soup, better than broth.

Recommended Posts

I am over two weeks postop and have been craving eggs. Not something I expected to crave. I found my salvation in eggdrop Soup. Super easy to make and gives the sodium and some Protein needed after surgery. I hope that helps for those getting board of our limited options. Does anyone else have anything yummy to share?

Problem with egg drop Soup (or hot & sour soup which is my preference) is that the thickener is usually a starch. Tapioca, corn, or something like that. By it's very nature starch is all carbohydrate. Corn startch is about 90% simple carbs.

there’s just not enough of it to be a problem in egg drop soup.

OK, I'm puzzled here on day #8 post-sleeve. My program's nutritionist advocated eggdrop Soup for the Stage 2 liquid diet. But what about the eggs? Don't they count as solid? I tried to compromise and sorta ate around most of them, and I must admit tummy is happy despite having gotten some egg. (This is the Chinese take-out variety--we're out of broth here now.)

Egg is usually a soft food not a solid...unless hard boiled, guess.

Those not liking broth, have you tried Better Than Bouillon? It's very good. A can of cooking broth isn't. I also like the clear Soup from the Japanese restaurant.

Where can you find Better than Bouillon, is it universally available? I am not familiar, with the brand.

It is near the cans of broth, Soup bases, Knorr granular bouillon or cubes of bouillon. May do an online search to see where available.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
