I have hypothyroidism. In normal ranges with medication. No problems with thyroid meds at any stage.

That’s horrible [emoji30] I’m sorry you have to deal with that... did it affect anything before getting surgery?

Before surgery I was having way more down days..the pain was excruciating and lead to severe depression.
Since surgery things have improved. I would much rather deal with making sure I am consuming what I need to control my health issues than to let my health issues control me.
It is a process but I would not change a thing since surgery..well maybe faster weight loss but that will happen in due time...lol

I'm hypothyroid too. I take a little pill and know that post surgery, I will have to really birddog the numbers until we know how the RNY will affect the absorption of my thyroid med.

@NegreteLove Sorry to hear of your struggles! Great attitude! ((hugs)) What are your go-to food to get your Iron in? Do you take dessicated liver capsules? What are your levels now and your ferritin level? TIA!!!

I’m also hypothyroid. It’s been a struggle for years to get my labs where I like them. I have not had them checked since my surgery....

Thank you for the hugs. I have taken synthroid (sp) on and off for the last 16 yrs. I am currently off until my next labs in June. Honestly they have never been able to regulate my thyroid and it is frustrating.

My go to foods are broccoli, Beans, and leafy greens. Before surgery I was taking horse tail extract and that helped tremendously.

I am now at a 28 day stall and think my thyroid is a big factor. It sucks but I am going to stay positive. Feeling better is more important than watching the numbers go down.

My biggest problem has been doctors only wanting to adjust thyroid meds based on TSH instead of actual thyroid hormone levels. If the hormones are low and I feel it, please treat it!

I have read about this, and it seems to be a common problem.

@NegreteLove Hashi's is a bi*ch. Seriously. Cuz your thyroid is on its way to dieing. Sometimes it produces too much, and sometimes it produces nothing. :( I don't know what horse tail extract does? Is it thyroid or Iron related? Why can't you take it now? Can you go get a new thyroid test? Maybe it's time to get back on it?

OMG. Mine too. Aggravates the f*ck out of me. My Reverse T3 is in the upper 1/4 of the high end, and it should be in the lower 1/4 of the low end...and my TSH is too high. My Free T3 and Free T4 are seriously jacked. :-/

Fluffy
Horse tail extract is for the anemia. It can be bought anywhere Vitamins are sold. It stabilizes the hemacrit levels.
It is great for women that still get their menstrual cycle because you will not lose it the way we lose Iron during shark week.

Hashi is so aggravating. I was misdiagnosed for years. Everything from it is all in my head to fibromyalgia to my favorite well it is because you are overweight.

My PvP wanted me to wait 6 months after surgery before doing labs but with this stall I am going to ask for them to be done sooner.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
