Feeling like a failure

Recommended Posts

I had VSG surgery on 8/23/17 so I am about 5 months out and now 58 pounds down. 30 of those pounds came off within the first few weeks. I feel like now Im slipping into bad habits because I am unmotivated. I still eat small portions and get full quickly but not losing. Is it too late for me to get back? Did I mess up royally? I haven’t moved in a couple weeks and I’m really frustrated.

Any tips for getting back on the losers Bench? I don’t want this to be the end of my journey when I’m still heavy.

Keep a food journal of everything you consume.

Try to keep calories under 1200.

Try to keep Protein over 60g

Try to exercise daily.

Try to have patience and understand that stalls are normal.

Is there hope to lose again?

From all I've read the first 12-18 months is when u will lose the most because the body hasnt for used to its changes and metabolism. So u still have time to get back on track and achieve the goals. Start using the myfitnesspal to track yur food. And exercise as much as possible. I feel the same way I'm 4 mos post and 40-50 lbs from my goal weight. It takes dedication and hard work , I've learned it's nothing to just magically lose on its own after the initial first month.

No ... do the reset diet.

And do it ASAP.

I struggle with my mind wanting to eat because its a bad habit even though im not hungry. Im about 2 months postop and it scares me sometimes that im already steuggling with this. Even tho the food i eat is healthy i want to get to a place that my thoughts arent so focused on “what can i eat?” What i have noticed that has really helped me is improving in firness goals. Im training for a 5k and i can really see the improvement each week. Also ive had fun experimenting with different healthy recipes. Hope we can both stay on track!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
