Hospital packing help!

Recommended Posts

I only packed a robe, slippers, and some essentials like lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, and chapstick. Of course my phone, charger, and some headphones. After surgery, there’s no time to relax. Always being checked for vitals, given meds, and hoping to catch some sleep in between all the poke and prodding. Also, you’ll be having to walk as much as possible...so there’s really no down time for anything else, at least for me there wasn’t. Didn’t take much because the hospital supplied basically all of my needs, just ask for it. They even had toothpaste and toothbrushes and shampoo/conditioner, etc.

I packed an entire suitcase with all my "just in case" items and used absolutely nothing. I slept the first day/night and didn't want to do much when I was awake. The next day I didn't bother even changing my gown because I was scared to move or stretch too much (although I wasn't in pain lol). By the time I got up felt like a person that afternoon, they were in the process of discharging me so I put back on the clothes I wore there. I may have used my phone twice in between naps but didn't even need my charger because I wasn't using it enough to lose juice. Everything i could have possibly wanted or needed was provided.

no problem, just remember whatever you pack...has to be unpacked after surgery :( That might help keep it simple

I overpacked a bit but here's what I used: went home in the clothes I wore to the hospital. Used phone charger and extension cord and phone, chapstick, toothbrush and toothpaste, and my brush. That's it!

I packed several changes of clothing I never wore. I changed into a nightshirt after the first night but could’ve worn the hospital gown the whole time. I would say that you won’t have the energy to do much besides read or watch television, so no need to bring too many distractions. My stay was so short I didn’t even need to charge my phone.

The things I packed that I used the most were a pair of sweat pants (keeps you from mooning everyone when you walk around), an eye mask (lets you sleep even if your roommate has a light on all night) and ear plugs also for sleep. I used my phone and ipad a bit, but not a lot, most of the time I was asleep or walking. I was able to shower at the hospital and brining my own hypo allergenic Shampoo and soap was important and useful.

I would definitely bring something for your lips like chapstick . I don't know about anyone else but my lips were really dry after surgery. everything else is pretty much supplied.

I am getting ready to be sleeved in 5 days! I’m trying to figure out what to pack? What did you pack and what did you actually use?

The anesthesia kicked my a$$ so I didn’t do much in the hospital besides sleep and use the bathroom lol but the only things I used for sure were my own pajamas, robe, slippers, and pillows. My iPad. And chapstick. Oh and toothbrush and toothpaste. I packed my contacts, face wash, hair brush, etc and didn’t even take it out of my suitcase.

Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
