Hi! I am re-sleeved. First surgery was 3 years ago... I didn’t lose much, then I got discouraged and followed a wrong path!

My reflux was bad before the first surgery, got a little better because the surgeon repaired an hernia but it got worse with time.

I was re-sleeved 3 weeks ago and the doctor also placed a Lynx around my esophagus. The lynx is a magnetic ring that helps with reflux... it is amazing! I have no reflux since the surgery... I haven’t had the need for nexium which is amazing! Before surgery there were days that I took 3 nexiums of 40mg.

As per cons with the sleeve... you need to be focused and follow a diet. It is very easy to go back to the bad habits and the surgery would be a waist of money/time and an abuse to you body.

I don’t have to lose that much, my starting weigh was 202, I lost 9 pounds on the first 8days then I hit a stall and since then I am in the same weight... I haven’t weighted myself since yesterday morning, trying to avoid it and keeping myself focused and trying not to get discouraged.... it happened to me one time already.....it is difficult and I feel like crying... so I have to repeat to myself that it is just a stall and it will pass...

All the rest... gases, you cannot eat as much or certain foods, or how to do it socially... you will learn and will adapt... your mind set is the challenge!!

I've had my gallbladder removed already, so I won't have to worry that at least. I already take medication for GERD, so that has been a cause for concern in my decision, but I'm more worried about the possibility of ulcers.

I also have GERD (had it prior to surgery). I remain on Pantoprazole and have not had any issues in that regard.

That's really good to hear, I'm on the same meds for my GERD

I now have reflux. But hopefully with time, that will improve or go away. I also had to change my pain medicine. Before surgery, I took Norco for my pain. But since surgery I had to swap to msContin xr so that my pain relief would last throughout the day. But still worth it. Just tweaks for my new life

So far no regrets or complications. I do miss loving my old foods like pizza, fried foods & fast food. Those things just are not good now, I can eat them if I wanted, but they seriously are just disgusting to me now. While that is a good thing for health and weight loss, your mind struggles with it. That comfort that you used to get from those foods just isnt there now. Its almost a hassle to think about what I need to eat or want to eat. I guess there is just no food passion now, and I miss that.

Having to keep up with drinking and Vitamins is a minor annoyance, but nothing to really complain about. Its also easy to get into a pattern of snacking on things, those calories really add up so dont let that habit come back!

I had RNY on 1/7/18 and I have been SUPER nauseated for the past 3 weeks. I am having an endoscopy done this week because it looks like there may be some narrowing in my pouch. I have lost 40 pounds since surgery and I do not have problems with my back like I did before surgery sooooo as horrible as this nausea has been I’d say, for me, the PRO’s our weigh this CON

I feel exactly the same way! I used to be able to live off pizza. Now, I’ll get the craving to order it once in a while but even before the delivery guy gets here I’ll change my mind and eat some cottage cheese or ground beef or something *gasp* healthy just to say that I had some type of dinner. The pizza or the foods I used to LOVE don’t even appeal to me anymore. And if anything I don’t miss those foods; what I do miss is missing them (I don’t know if that makes sense, it’s hard to describe)

As far as the vitamins are concerned they are a lot and they do take getting used to taking them religiously BUT I definitely prefer them to medication & insulin 5x a day!

Being COLD all the time is my biggest side effect, but it feels like a very fair trade to me. (I'm down nearly 44 lbs since my 12/28 surgery.) I actually had some complications with the surgery itself (very painful splenic infarction and a collapsed lung) but I'm fully recovered now.

I had well-controlled reflux before my sleeve but, knock on wood, it hasn't given me any trouble at all. I take Omeprozole morning and night and I've been fine.

I found the Vitamins annoying at first (especially the big chalky tablets) but, with my surgeon's permission, I switched to a Gummy Multivitamin, jelly Iron supplement, and calcium citrate chews, all of which I find MUCH easier to take.

Not many cons, mainly just learning how to live with a sleeve - eat slowly, chew more, wait, etc. I have a couple food aversions, but not deal breakers by any means. One weird aspect is that food in general can be no big deal because a lot of the desire for food is not there. I have to eat on schedule or get busy and forget to eat.

There are many pros - not a slave to food, more energy, and everything that improves with being lighter - moving easier and quicker, fitting in seats more comfortably, feeling normal, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
