4 months of weight management with a nutritionist but my first appt with the surgeon counted as 1 month of weight management. 2 weight loss support group meetings, pulmonary clearance, psych exam and a letter of support from my pcp. Almost forgot Blood tests, ekg and chest X-ray too.

Thanks I'm in the Bronx too. I went to the seminar for montefiore last week. I called the day after to schedule a consult and they said they don't have any available until the last week of April. I didn't want to wait that long to even start the process and get all the info. So I heard this lady saying Jacobi was really good win tht so I called Jacobi and asked when their consult appt were scheduled for. They said u have to do their seminar and at the Seminar you will schedule right then and there for the consult within 1-3weeks. The seminar is tomorrow. So will see how that's goes but I still scheduled the consult with monte in April just in case i still and to stick with monte

NYC employee with GHI. Went to White Plains Hospital and highly recommend it. The surgeon top notch as is the staff. The RN that coordinates the program is very competent and returns all inquiries in a timely manner. The hospital itself was the best. They are now part of the Montefiore Hospital Network. It's a six-month process with monthly visits to a nutritionist, pulmonary specialist, need an endoscopy, visit a psychiatrist and attend one group session.

Geez late April yeah that’s too long especially since that’s when you actually start the program so you wouldn’t have your surgery until late August early September. I love their program they’re very knowledgeable and helpful but I totally understand why you went to Jacobi.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
