Has anybody else gotten lightheaded easier after surgery? I’m 25 days post-op and have noticed that I get lightheaded a lot easier if I stand up quickly or from a squatting position.

Yes I have had dizzy spells too. I can tell you now at just over 3 months post-op it is slowly dissipating.

Yes, in the beginning after surgery I did, and especially when exercising. Make sure to drink your fluids to stay hydrated, that helps. Also, if you are taking blood pressure medicine let your doc know because you may need to decrease your dose or stop altogether.

The symptoms of low blood pressure (hypotension) can include:

Dizziness or lightheadedness

Fainting (syncope)

Blurred vision

Nausea

Fatigue

Lack of concentration

Low blood pressure on standing up (orthostatic, or postural, hypotension). This is a sudden drop in blood pressure when you stand up from a sitting position or after lying down.

Gravity causes blood to pool in your legs when you stand. Ordinarily, your body compensates by increasing your heart rate and constricting blood vessels, thereby ensuring that enough blood returns to your brain.

But in people with orthostatic hypotension, this compensating mechanism fails and blood pressure falls, leading to dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision and even fainting.

For individuals that experience this condition after bariatric surgery, there are several potential causes. For example if you were on high blood pressure meds prior to surgery, it may be time to reduce the amount of prescription meds you are taking. Make sure you are meeting your daily Fluid and Vitamin requirements because dehydration and a mineral imbalance can cause this problem.

On my bariatric discharge instructions when I left the hospital, one of the times listed for when to contact your surgeon was if you are experiencing dizziness.

My dizziness was due to my BP meds. Doctor took me off of the BP meds and my BP not only went down my dizziness stopped.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
