Today my mother handed me a huge slice of lemon meringue pie

Recommended Posts

I think maybe she's a little senile. LOL. I know she meant to make me happy.. *sigh*

So, this is what I did.

I took two little bites. They were delicious. I enjoyed them.

And then I passed the plate to my hubby and said..."Mom, that was absolutely delicious. I can't eat a whole piece anymore, remember? But the two bites I had were amazing. Thank you! You make the best pie ever."

She was happy. I was happy. And my hubby got to eat pie. (dork went back and had another piece, too!)

I can honestly say I don't feel cheated. I don't feel like I missed anything. I feel like I got to enjoy a treat I love....without blowing my diet or going crazy.

I didn't get irritated or ornery. I didn't get unhappy or get the guilts for making my mom (who has memory issues) feel like she'd done something terrible. I made a compromise I feel really good about.

Feeling kinda proud of myself. Could I possibly be getting the hang of this moderation thing?

Congrats!!! Sounds like everyone had a WIN WIN!! That is exactly what me DR said, learn to eat with moderation. That there are no forbidden foods. If I thought that I would never be able to eat something again, That would totally mess with my mind!! I have always had a slight rebellous nature. Never tell me NO or I can't have or do anything. LOL That is exactly whe I will work to prove them wrong!! Not very good having it when I was younger. LOL :) :)

I follow the mayo Clinic Diet which allows up to 75 calories per day of refined sweets. I only rarely eat them. But it's nice to know they're workable in a pinch.

I keep my total calories under 1200 a day and hit my Protein goal...so my diet is solid.

I need a forever diet. I'm tired of fad diets, or diets I can force myself to stick to for a few months. I need something that's workable for a lifetime. And I feel like i've found it:)

By the way, Shedo...congrats on your amazing weight loss! Great work!

Just last night I had a dove chocolate heart and I just sucked on it and it melted in my mouth and it was delicious and I felt just fine until I had three more UGG! Felt sick for about a half hour but boy was it delicious. I’ll definitely stick to one next time I treat myself and I won’t make a habit of it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
