I just had surgery on January 30th 2018

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my names Myckayla I’m 20 years old my height is 4’11 my highest weight was 220 and my surgery weight was 208.4. I spent a total of 2 nights and 3 days in the hospital due to not being able to drink enough fluids. And now that I’m home I don’t have the feeling of hunger or wanting to drink :( has anyone else dealt with this and if so how? Because I don’t want to go back for dehydration. I’m also in the full liquid stage.

Yes, the physical urge isn't really there but you have to meet your goals for Protein and Water each day. Try the baritastic app - you can set reminders for drinking water and track protein intake on it. Drinking water is the most important part so if you can't do both, focus on it. If you're unsure what your goals are, give your doctor a call. Good luck xx

I do use Baritastic app but I just can’t get all my fluids I’m not focused too much on Protein just because I’m more focused on being hydrated. Thanks so much (:

Any fluids count towards your Water goals - water, decaff tea/coffee, juice, milk etc. Have you tried sugar free popsicles? Xx

Yes I have the only problem I’m running into is anytime I try something as soon as it touches my stomach I get nauseous. I don’t actually throw up I just have to walk back and forth til I feel better so idk I’ve been trying to incorporate different things I’m allowed to have day by day but it doesn’t help I go right back to the same thing which is ice chips :/ I want to have some good Soups

Protein is important for proper healing. It’s a must! Please drink it

Did your doc give you any anti nausea med for post op? Mine did, but I was lucky I didn’t need it after hospital discharge.

I’m sure you’ll do even better (: I had just never had a surgery before and never had anesthesia so it was tough for me. But I plan on filming a video on my experience and what I took to the hospital today so maybe you can pull some info from that (: thanks so much for the kind and encouraging words

Whoop whoop surgery sissstaa! I don’t have a problem with my fluids anymore and My gas pain was very minimal but I took gas x to hurry it along. For a few days I felt like that too with the Water so I bought the miracle 360 cup (for toddlers) and it’s so much easier and I don’t feel as much air. But that’s my suggestion another suggestion is to use a baby spoon to drink the water which is what I used the first 2 days I was in the hospital

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
