Surgery Oct 22 in Mexico

I had the lap band surgery Oct 22 in Tijuana by Dr. Ortiz- everything went very well though I heard surgeries were cancelled for the rest of the week due to the San Diego fires. He and another surgeon live in San Diego- I feel very fortunate to have gotten there in time. I'm on post-op day 4 and doing OK- I could have yogurt today and had some Keifer cultured milk- peach. Not as sweet as Yoplait. I'm still on liquids most of the time. So far, so good! Adrianne PORTLAND

I was cancelled due to the fires...really, really disappointed...I was sooo ready but that was out of everyone's control, rescheduled two weeks later. I'm glad to hear yours went well. Looking for to Nov. 7 if anyone else is going that week let me know, I'm coming from St. Louis.

My question to you is why would you go to Mexico to have the surgery? Are you self-pay? Or do the doctors down there travel from the USA and their rates are less expensive than if they were in the US?

I am self pay....so the price difference is almost double in the states...also my BMI is low so it's harder to find a doctor in the states to do it...and I figured if I'm going to travel what's the difference? I've struggled with my weight and I just want to get it done before I get any heavier. From my understanding the doctors do live in San Diego and just travel across the border every day...but like I said haven't had the surgery yet so I'll know soon!
