Will I ever be warm again?

Recommended Posts

Ever since starting the pre-op liquids, I'm FREEZING! I know it's winter, but the other day it was 60 degrees out and I was inside, in sweats and draped with a throw. Last night I abandoned the recliner to sleep in my own bed again (1 week post op). Hubby sleeps with a fan on - can't sleep without it. I kept waking up in the night to turn up the electric blanket. I start purees tomorrow. Does eating real food again help at all?

HHHMM Welcome to WL life!! LOL I am 4 and 1/2 years out and my first 4 years I FROZE to death. I also sleep with a fan. So I know his game. LOL I am still colder than I ever was before my weight loss. I have a blanket I use while watching tv. But I also have a fan in the living room for the times that my SLEEVED hubby has the heat p to 70-71. I always use to say that when fat gets cold it is cold!! But I have since figured out even being at my normal weight I get sooo cold!! Stay warm!! Sleep with your electric blankets and snuggle up to your lil heater.

I've been freezing as well, but it has gotten better as I've gotten more active. I was even out in a T shirt today and fine for an hour in 35 degrees.. 3 weeks ago and I would have had multiple jackets and hats on.

13 months out and I cannot get warm. I wear layers on layer when going out and as soon as I get home I'm in fuzzy socks, slippers, sweats and a hoodie and sit under a blanket.

A year out and feel the same. The cold gets to me way more than it ever had before. The first few months after surgery were terrible while it was still winter. I used to sit in the living room with my blanket and wore the hood up on my sweatshirt half the time...lol. This winter hasn't been as bad, but I definitely layer way more than I used to.

it's a good sign you have a solid calorie deficit (which means weight loss). One of the first cut backs your body makes when trying to stop itself from starving to death...is turning the thermostat down. Heating your extremities is extremely calorie costly. Cutting the blood flow a bit helps conserve energy.

Also...when you're heavy and your body is trying to use up a surplus of calories...you might be warmer than most people because your body is trying to pump and dump some of those extra calories.

If I start feeling cold all the time, or even just normal at room temperature, my wife will be thrilled. I'm the kind of guy who's always warm and she's just the opposite. I keep the AC set at 70 or lower in the heat of the summer and almost never turn on the heater during the winter. My wife can always put on a sweater while I'm not about to sit around without a shirt. Granted, I live in SoCal (San Fernando Valley) where summer will average in the high 90s and peak over 110 and today, in the middle of "winter", today's will be 83 and the overnight low will be 58.

This winter has been super cold here so I'm sure that's not helping but I'm literally never warm. It sucks but it's better than being 300 pounds

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
