Thinking ahead - plastics before having children?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I'm almost 6 months post-op Gastric By-Pass, very close to my goal weight (7 kg/15 pounds) and I'm already thinking about plastic surgery. My arms and legs are pretty ok, my butt, breasts and tummy not so much.

I am 26 years old, single, no children but I do plan to have some in the future. My concern is: should I get these surgeries done right after I turn one year post op? Should I wait more? THinking that I want to have children in the future, should I wait after that happens, specially the Tummy Tuck surgery. Has anyone gone through this? I need opinions before I start thinking about a consultation with a plastic surgeon.

I just had the TT done with plans to have kids down the road. Most Plastics Surgeons will tell you that they have many patients who have the procedure and go on to have children without undoing the TT results but obviously these guys have an incentive to tell you that. Of course, medically the procedure has no effect on the soundness of your pregnancy. Given the TT is not easily performed a second time, I guess it will just have to come down to how you feel about your ability to recover (though having good genes, exercise, diet, etc) from the skin stretching that comes with pregnancy.

If I were you, I wouldn’t do TT if I plan to have kids in the future. It will be a total waste of money and energy. You can always have Lipo, butt lift but TT either breast augmentation no no no. Wait until you are all set with having children.

You are young and so your skin elasticity should be good, but I would wait on the TT and boob work if you plan to breastfeed. Otherwiae the rest of the work would be fine. I had a lower body lift in August and can’t imagine possibly undoing the results and waisting money!!
But also depends on personal opinion. If you don’t plan on having kids for 10 Years, then why not be happy with your results now! And for a long time. The TT can always be done again. Really is up to you.

I would wait, youth is def on your side with skin elasticity anyway. I had a friend many years ago lose a lot of weight and her skin recovered quite well on its own and it took 3 years but you could barely tell.

And def no boob job until you are done breastfeeding.

I am in the same position. 26 years old and no children. I am considering reconstructive surgery on my tummy and I don’t plan on having children at all but I am still concerned. You hear that you are young and your mind may change when it comes to children. I just don’t want my Tummy Tuck to be in vain if I decided later on I want a baby.

The only problem I could see and it is teensie tiny chance the pressure of a baby inside could give you a hernia in the stomach wall. My own father ended up with a ventral hernia following bowel surgery. Must have been once they split his abdominal muscles they never healed right and rejoined. My children found it entertaining but I felt sorry for my dad. Couldn't ever wear a seat belt for fear of rupturing. Doctors told him in the event of a car accident to curl into a ball b and roll to the floorboards.

My husband and I are planning on trying for baby number 3 in 3 years. (First 2 kids are twins. I really want to try for a single baby)
I'll be 3 years out from surgery and should be at my goal and maintaining. I'll also be 30 years old at that time.
We decided to wait for my skin removal and any other plastics until after the baby.

Personally I'm going to do it at the 1 year mark. I want children but not any time soon. I'm 25... I'll have kids in my 30's or adopt! I'm not ready to settle down. I want to travel & meet yummy foreign men on my adventures... so, I say it's whatever you have planned in the future.

Wait. I had a Tummy Tuck after my first kid because we were told not to have anymore. 8 years later we decided to try for 1 more. My tummy is still flat but it's loose and soft. I would wait until you have all of your kids.

I've had two kids. And id feel like it would be a waste of money if I did it before. My stomach was ruined lol. My surgeon said wait till 2 year post op. I'm happy with that give my body time to adjust. As you have a goal weight and sometimes still continue to lose as your weightloss stabalizes.

I agree that also. If you plan on breastfeeding it is best to leave your breasts alone till your done. Not everyone but alot of people have issues breastfeeding after they have had breasts done.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
