7 Years Post Op - Now a Problem (Need advice)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

This is my first post on this forum. I'm approx 7 years post op and have only needed 1 fill. I've always had a good deal of restriction. I've lost about 80 lbs. Last two years I've gained about 10 back. I probably haven't been the best patient the last few years. I still PB a lot as there's times that I just want to eat!! Anyway, we're currently scheduled for an IVF cycle so I'm taking alot of meds. Anyway, I woke up Monday literally not being able to swallow water! I cannot get anything down. I've lost just about 7 lbs in the last week. I'm getting scared. If I've had some sort of slip I would assume I'd need surgery to correct it, and that could jeopordize our upcoming IVF. Has anyone ever gone through just a random bout of complete restriction?

Again, I'm so long post-op that I haven't kept current with the latest news on the band. Any advice would be most appreciated. Would a slip in my band cause total restriction? thanks in advance.:rain:

First - HUGE congrats on your weight loss! I am a beginner - banded 2.5 weeks now and have lost 21 pounds so far. Great job keeping it off too, I hope I have that staying power.

About the swallowing - Oh my gosh....go to the doctor! Kind of gross, but can you swallow your spit? If you can't even swallow Water there is certainly a problem - and you can become seriously dehydrated which can cause other physical/health problems. I am not a doctor or nurse but have a friend that had a swallow problem unrelated to banding so I have a little exposure. Perhaps your IVF hormones have caused some sort of change in your body chemistry to create this now. I know the meds are very expensive and it is such an emotional investment going through this but if you aren't healthy it will lower your PG chances too. (DH and I did a couple years of Injectibles and IUIs) At the very least, CALL the doctor.

Take care and good luck....

When you are doing IVF you typically take high doses of hormones. That might be part of the problem. Maybe it is a slip. But if it is a slip it isn't the end of the world. If you catch it early then 80+% of the time it is totally fixed with a complete unfill and liquids for anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks.

Get it checked out quickly. You need a fluoro exam.

I wouldn't mess around with that. I would go to the doctor and have it checked out. I think it wouldn't interfere with your IVF unless you are going to require surgery to repair something. Good luck, hope you feel better!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
