Emotions & frustration. 1 month

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am 27 years old, was sleeved on December 27, 2017. My first week I went through all kinds of emotions, regretful and in pain. I was 275 pounds day of surgery and am now 241. Needless to say I had a stall for about a week and a few days now UGH!

I’m not sure if it’s normal but I often still get frustrated sometimes, I’m always thirsty and have to be really conscience about what to drink since not everything sits well. I can’t tolerate milk (non fat nor soy, or almond milk) which bums me out since I used to love milk. I would drink two glasses full every night! Now I can’t even have a sip without my stomach feeling gassy. I threw up for the first time yesterday after trying eggs (I’m on soft foods by the way). Some soft foods just don’t sit well! I feel so overwhelmed like I’ll never get past the whole not being able to eat more than 2 small spoonfuls of something and have to settle for chicken broth for the rest of my life.

Hang in there it gets better quickly. The first time I tried eggs was trrrible too, but a week later I tried again and now I eat them daily. If something doesn't sit well try it a week or two later and it will likely be fine. You definitely won't be on broth forever.

For thirst try a warm beverage like herbal tea or light hot cocoa, it goes down way easier and helps get the ounces in.

Like you said you are very new out from your Surgery. It will get better, I know that isn't much help but hang tight. You will find your balance. The thrist was the hardest or me too. hate to be thristy. I would much prefer no food to no Water. I know that is what I will be tested on in our final days. LOL Only giving me a drip at a time will drive me bonkers. As for gas, I have something that has helped me sooo much. Tey are natural and have saved my life more than once. PAPAYA ENZYMES. They cost less than $5.00 at Walmart. I won't tell you to take them before u check with your DR but like I said 100% natural and cheap too. WIN WIN for me!! Like I said u will figure out what works for u. If u like cottage cheese it has pretty good Protein in it. I take strawberry sugar free jelly put it in my cottage cheese. It taste like strawberry cheesecake. YUMMY. On ACCORDING TO EGGFACE on Pintrest has lots of different recipes. I made the RICCOTA BAKE recipe on there. It is very soft and u can blend it if you need too. My hubby really liked it. So keep trying different things until you can get yourself built up to eating the different foods. I'm 4 and 1/2 years out and I have foods that I can NOT eat. I also have certain foods that I eat over and over again. Kind of like my rituals. Take care and I hope everything works out. Have a great one

Yes, I’ve said the same thing to my friend, rather no food to no water! I’ve heard of the papaya enzymes, I do have an appointment coming up in 2 weeks with my surgeon so I’ll ask him about those. As for cottage cheese, I actually haven’t tried it but the ricotta bake recipe sounds so yum! But I’ll give myself a week or two to reintroduce eggs as I don’t think it worked for me so well first time around.

Thank you so much on the advice! It gives me hope to know it gets better.

Take care!

Believe me I’m trying I guess I just get frustrated from time to time! I’ll try eggs again in a week or two as well as milk and hope that it will sit well eventually.

Herbal tea has helped lots when I can’t drink plain water!

Thank you!

After my RNY on 12/28 and after that I can only do Lactose Free milk, I tried eggs last week and again this week and it was a total no go. I started taking Papaya Enzyme about 4 weeks before my surgury and that has helped but I now also take 1 gas ex every night both are chewable. I eat alot of cottage cheese, low fat refried black Beans and tuna. I am trying what my Dr. says and just try 1 new food everyday and see how it sits with me. Yesterday mushed carrots didnt work out but today greek yogurt was good.

It will get better

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
