So, I think I am one of those band failures. I need to get back in the swing of things. I haven't exercised, ate bad foods, and here I am........just about the same weight as June.

Anyone have some words of wisdom for me? Some encouragement? I had one fill but I still feel hardly any restriction. I don't have enough nerve to go back to my surgeon-I want to lose some before I go back............HELP! :)

I suggest you DO GO BACK to your surgeon. You need to fill restriction for the band to help you.

Just suck it up and go get a fill. It will help you feel full and get back on the losing wagon.

good luck

Why do you want to lose weight before you go to the doctor for a fill? I would go and get that fill ASAP.

The only thing you can do from here, if you want this to work is, start eating better, and exercise as often as you can.

Sam.

ITA with edie and chickie...your surgeon knows our battle with food. I seriously doubt it will surprise him that you haven't lost since you have little to no restriction. We got the band because we COULDN'T get full. Don't let fear keep you from getting the fills that will help you get the weight off.

Keep us posted :(

You are not a failure. You just don't have enough restriction or enough information. Your Doctor should have told you that most likely you would not have enough restriction after one fill. I know I didn't.

The reason you are eating the wrong foods and to much of them may be because you are beating yourself up and feeling bad about yourself instead of going for another fill.

I know that for me this has been a very emotional journey with lots of ups and downs. It's easy to start doubting yourself. Don't give into that. You went through the hardest part. You had the surgery. Now let it work for you. Call today and get an appointment for a fill.

I know that it is hard at first. I am on my 5th fill, and am only know feeling like I have some restriction. I just keep pushing for more fills, and hoping that soon all will kick it.

I did not loose much weight at all the first few months. I kept thinking that I was doing something wrong also. But, now it is stating. I guess it is different for all of us. Some can loose right from the start, with no fills, and then there is us.....

Go in right away. Make an appt. today. Don't waste anymore time. Please, you deserve it.

Quadmom....you are not a failure. My doctors office told me it sometimes takes 3-6 fills for some people to feel restriction. You should really call your doctor. While there, talk to him/her about your feelings as well. Ask them for suggestions. Mine gave me a sheet that says "If you're not losing 1-2 pounds a week, here's what to look at..." and it helps me to keep on track. I've had 3 fills and have 3cc in a 4cc band...and I had good restriction up until a few days ago. I'm getting back in next week.

Many times there is no weight loss and even weight gain befor a fill. Go to the Dr. you need a fill. You are not a failure! It may take several fills before you get good restriction I know it to be true. Keep your chin up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
