January 2018 Sleevers HERE

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on Friday, January 19, 2018 and would love to connect with fellow January sleevers! Would love to hear your progress and share some of my stories, struggles, and successes!

So far, I've lost 12.6 lbs although that seems to have stopped after the first week of surgery. It's discouraging but I keep reminding myself that this is a process, a journey. I didn't gain the weight overnight so I can't realistically expect to lose it all overnight either. And hey, 12.6 lbs is the most I've ever lost in just a week so I really am not complaining. But I, like many others I suspect, have struggled with my weight so long that I'm just ready for it to be GONE. Rather than focus on what I'm not losing, I am trying to focus on what I have lost, and what I will continue to lose. My weight loss goal is 120 lbs, of which surgery will likely help me lose 60 to 80 lbs. The other 60 to 40 will be up to me - through diet and exercise and a lot of self love and determination. Will I like it? probably not. But will it be worth it? I truly believe it will be, not only because of how much better i'll feel about myself, but because I DESERVE to look and feel my very best. I OWE it to myself. And as much as there will be times when I want to sink into old, bad habits of finding comfort in food, I will remind myself of the gift I have given myself by taking this first step with surgery.

so yeah, I'd love to hear where you are with your journey so far. What are some of your wins? What are you doing to reward yourself?

So excited to meet you all!

I had mine on 1/24/18. I’m still only able to keep down liquid. The side incision is still pretty swollen. But I’m healing and take it one day at a time. You’re eating pudding?

Hi! My name is Maggie. I had my sleeve surgery on 1/2/18. When I had my first appointment with my doctor I weighed 209. Then, in the months leading up to an actual surgery date, I blew it because I thought I would lose too much before I got a surgery date and then would no longer qualify for the surgery. When I was finally given a surgery date on December 14, 2017, I weighed in at 229. My nutritionist told me I had to do a THREE WEEK liquid diet! Over the holidays no less! Well, in that three weeks, I was able to drop back down to 209 on my surgery date! Yay me! I woke up in the recovery room thinking “what the f—- did I just do?” I was in a lot of pain. I only spent overnight in the hospital and despite the pain, I walked as soon as they took me up to my hospital room. The nurses were amazed that I was up and walking so soon. I have had a few days where I throw up, but I am almost certain it’s because I need to slow down when eating - I tend to eat way too fast. By January 21 I was down to 195.2, then I hit the dreaded stall. I have remained at 195.2 since then. I walk about 1 3/4 miles three days a week. I have autoimmune issues including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. Today, I kicked it up a notch and walked 2 1/2 miles. My left hip is screaming tonight. I think I will skip the walk tomorrow and resume on Wednesday. Stay strong peeps!!!!! We’ve got this!

Hello everyone, I had the sleeve done on 1/16/18. Pre surgery 265- SW254 -CW244.. I feel the same Princess DY..lost in the beginning and now nothing is really happening. I think it has a lot to do with what I read in other people’s stories. We just have to focus on our own story.. and not compare. Pretty sure that is my problem right now. It feels so good to have finally lost some weight I don’t want it to stop. I’m not eating soft food yet still on the full liquid diet. I’m kind of nervous to start eating what if I start to gain back the lost pounds already. Well I will try and stay positive and I hope you will do the same .. 🙏🏼

HI everyone! I had my surgery 1/25 and the whole process from start to beginning went super fast for me. From the time I decided to get info to the surgery was only 2.5 months and a month was waiting because of appointments because of holiday. I look at my husband and ask him... did I really do this. I'm still absorbing the fact that I did it. I did 2 week low carb diet prior to surgery and lost 15 lbs and since surgery I'm down 10 lbs but I think I'm going to stop monitoring it daily so I don't get discouraged when they slow down. I'm not hungry at all, just trying to kick the habit of going into the fridge. My nutritionalist and surgeon gave me to different diets for the two weeks after surgery so I'm kinda doing a mix of the two. I also had my gallbladder removed during sleeve. If anyone can help me with a few things, that would be great.

1. When I drink or eat applesauce I feel like it just hits my stomach hard. then I get a feeling of air being moved around in my stomach and it either gurgles or I have to stretch to get it to go away or burp. Its not indigestion or acid , just air. Thoughts?

2. How much Protein were you getting in the first week?

Thanks and I look forward to going through this journey with all of you

I was sleeved on 1/3. Lost 8 pounds that first week, put back on 1.5 pounds somehow when I started on pureed foods and my scale has pretty much stayed put since so I've been stalled for about 2.5 weeks. UGH. This morning the scale was down 1.5 pounds so hopefully I'm headed back to losing. It's been hard not to get discouraged but I know right now the time is for healing. I can start trying foods in about a week so I am very muchso looking forward to that. Generally I feel really great though and have had no issues eating or drinking.

Hey all. I was sleeved on 1/23/18. Even though I'd planned for this since last summer, the morning after surgery I still woke up with a surreal feeling of "did I really just permanently remove part of my body?" Today is my first follow-up appointment so I'm waiting for official weight from that, but I did peek at my home scale today and think I'm down about 11 pounds. Still on full liquids. Haven't been really hungry yet, but tired of sweet liquids or broth. Getting my Protein and fluids in, but a bit concerned I might be coming down with the dreaded thrush. I came home from surgery with a drain out of one of my incisions. Haven't walked as much as I should (getting out around the block or anything) - partly due to the heartbreak it would cause my dogs (who pull) for me to go alone, but mostly because of the drain. I still feel more like a patient with it in than someone recovering. Hopefully it will be gone today and I can move on! Pain was minimal and in general I feel pretty good.

Hello
I am almost 1 yr post op.

Best thing I have done.
Start 223lbs and now Weigh 115lbs. I am 5'2".
I eat every 2-3 hrs. I do not eat potatoes or Pasta or breads.
I eat substitutes instead.
I get my 80 g Protein in everyday which is priority to me and my Water intake which is mixture of water/ Vitamin water/ crystal light/decaf tea/decaf coffee/ sugar free Popsicles.
I have no problems except Constipation which is norm from so much protein.
I just take Stool softener at times
If I eat a salad than I go without needing stool softner.< br>I go to gym 2_3 X a week. I use to go 4-5 X a week.
I am no longer on meds for B/P,
Cholesterol nor diabetes. Everything is normal now.
I don't need a knee replacement now either. My knees feel good.
I just Thank God for this Blessing
For my health.
So you just do everything you suppose to do and everything will be fine.

Hello all!

I am new to this forum. I recently had my Consult appointment and received my pre op packet and already overwhelmed. I don't know exactly when I should start implementing the pre op diet. I am guessing that my surgery will be late May for the Gastric Sleeve. Any suggestions?

I would consult with your doctor's office about any pre-op liquid type diet, but right now is a great time to start limiting carbs and adopting a more high Protein, low carb diet. That's what I did while on my 3 months of required physician supervised loss. And I gradually started substituting one meal, then two per day for Protein Shakes, just to get used to it.

I had my sleeve done on Monday 29/1/2018. Had a very bad first night of pain but it subsided the next day. Stayed 2 days in hospital. Started walking the next morning after surgery. Still only on Water and Clear Liquids. How is the paid for the rest of you?

I had my gallbladder removed at the same time and I'm one week out and I feel great today. Each day is a big improvement, hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
