How youuuu poopin’?

Recommended Posts

I’m getting the sleeve. I’ve ibs-d until about 10 years ago. Since then I have very few flares and have been doing great. But I do worry about pooping and diarrhea and all that gross stuff after surgery. I’m afraid to have to live looking for toilet everywhere I go. How is everyone else doing?

For a couple of weeks there was a little urgency here and there....but nothing in my pants. Bahahaha! There were a few mad dashes and clenched Buns, though:)

I'm a couple of months out now and poop daily. Something between soft serve and regular. Just took a few weeks to adjust and the poop machine is functioning near normal.

yep...graphic, but you asked:)

So the sleeve does not alter the digestive system like RNY, what I noticed is at first during liquid stages it was a loose but I expected this since liquids in liquids out. Then mostly normal. No excessive odor or crazy color/consistancy. Once in a while im slightly SLIGHTLY constipated. So get your Fiber in.

Diarrhea? Nah. It's the other problem.

The people here who do complain of poop issues usually complain of Constipation. That's less upsetting overall and more readily fixable, thankfully.

Why did I read that in a Joey voice? [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
I have had ischemic colitis for years and thought I’d have to be looking for the nearest bathroom constantly after my RNY. BUT surprisingly Constipation is the main issue.

Loose would be a nice change. Pre surgery never had any issues. Post surgery I have a no fiber diet for now, so Miralax is my friend and required daily. Intake is minimal and so is output.. not sure how that will play with IBS.

Yes more the Constipation issue. I have always had issues so this Iron doesn’t help [emoji23]

THIS! I’m going every few days with a combination of Miralax and fiber gummies daily.

Good luck on your surgery. My poop issue has been Constipation for most of the 2 months since sleeve surgery. No problem before and working on all available options to poop like before surgery.

Just a tip. Not sure when you can eat Chia seeds but they are a miracle. They work like MiraLAX because they draw Water into them and turn into a gel. I add them to Protein Shakes, as they constipate me.

Constipation is a real issue. Sometimes I go 2-4 days without going then go a small amount every day for awhile. And when I do go, it's large marble to small golf ball sized balls that sometimes get stuck or are painful to pass. I don't think I've had a soft BM since before surgery. I had constipation issues before surgery but things are definitely different/worse now. I also HAVE to eat 6 ounces of blackberries every day and take a stool softened every night before bed in order to go daily.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
