Surgery Scheduled 2/22/18

Recommended Posts

Good morning! I have enjoyed reading some of your posts and appreciate the advice and encouraging words. I live in Fort Worth, TX and I’m scheduled to have surgery (gastric sleeve) on the 22nd of February. Is there anyone else in this area who might share the same general time frame...give or take? Thanks!

Look for Fluffy Chix's postings, she lives in North Houston, humorous as all get out. I know there are other Texans,on Bariatric Pal,i just don't remember all of their, towns. I'm in Ohio myself. Look for the thread about hometown pals there may be names of other Texans there. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.

I know it is nearly a year since Fluffy Chix started her Bariatric Journey. Most of the US plans 6-7 months, in that time the average person has dietician appointments, cardiology, pulmonology, psychology, weight appointments and meet with the surgeon. I didn't have to but many programs have you start an exercise program or meet with a lifestyle coach or trainer. Mrs Gamgee who lives in Red Deer Alberta and is going thru her provincial and national health plans will have 2 years on her journey. Here you usually have to meet the BMI criteria and or have comorbities like diabetes, sleep apnea and a few others to speed things up unless you're really, lucky with your plan or are self pay. Its like the joke about welfare- it isn't fair and you never get well. Someday,I feel like the number 2 sled dog, the view never changes.

You should make,it on the comorbibs and also on BMI. I have gerd, sleep apnea, severe arthritis and a BMI over 45. I'm 72 and although many programs won't touch anybody over 60 my surgeon and program had no qualms in accepting me. I have low cholesterol, low moderate blood pressure, no diabetes and am properly motivated for success. So I'm in it to win it like everyone else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
