Prescription medication

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 6 days ago. I have had no problems excepting taking my medication for restless legs. I have had severe rls for many years. Every night I take 2 gabapentins and 2 ropinerols. The gabapentin tablets are too big to swallow so I have to ether cut them in tiny pieces or crush them. The taste is horrible and it upsets my stomach. If I don’t take the medication I wil be up all night. Any suggestions?

I had a problem taking Calcium tablets after surgery. I lost my ability to swallow large tablets after surgery. So I crushed them and took the powder with a glass of Water. That was horrrrribbblee. They tasted like chalk. In the end, what worked for me is mixing the powder with a glass of crystal light and chugging that down. Which was good but because it formed a paste at the bottom of the glass, I had to add more crystal light, stir and chug that down. After 3 or 4 times, there was no more paste and I was good to go. [One of the up sides to this approach was that I didn't have to worry about meeting my daily Fluid requirements.)

Around 2 months after surgery, I found that I was able to swallow again and all was right with the world.

Also leg cramps can be a sign of dehydration and mineral depletion (too little potassium, calcium, magnesium). So make sure you are meeting your daily fluid and Vitamin requirements.

Hi. This may not be much better - a nurse gave me mine crushed in a spoon of applesauce. I have to take Gabapentin for fibromyalgia pain so I know how much it helps with leg pain. I hope the applesauce helps. :206_cat:

Thank goodness someone else feels my restless leg issues. The first night in hospital I was not only uncomfortable from surgery but my legs were all over the place. Note to self make sure if ever in hospital again bring ropinerol. I am on 4 mg and it is very small. I tried crushing but ended up just swallowing with Water. Good luck and swallow away.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
