Liquid diet worries

Recommended Posts

I start my liquid diet on April 3rd. I will have Easter dinner as my last hoorah and then it's Jello, popsicles and broth along with three Protein Drinks for the day.

Hey! I'm on day 5 of a 4 week liquid diet! It SUCKS. It does get better though. 6lbs down since I started, so that's a little motivational.

Just be glad yours is 2weeks... [emoji31]

Hi. I became obsessed with jigsaw puzzles. I had fun and was completely occupied. [emoji250]

I feel like my diet pre and post op are very strict.

PreOp and up to 7 weeks after my surgeon will not allow me to have any solid food.

Does anybody else have a diet this strict?

· 2 weeks preop diet: Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids only

· 2 weeks post op diet: Protein shakes and clear liquids only

· 3 & 4 weeks postop: I can add in creamy liquids

· 5 & 6 weeks postop: I can add in pureed foods

· 7+ weeks: I can slowly integrate solid foods.

Yep, they make every one of their patient's do it. Planning on following the rules. Just way different from everyone I'm seeing on BariPal.

Every surgeon is going to be different. From what I understand, the pre-op diet is for making the liver smaller. Surgeons seem to have the period to be standard 2 weeks, more more, some less from what I see posted. A smaller liver makes the operation easier. There are tools that the surgeon can use if the liver is too large. But I imagine, that having to use extra tools would make the operation last longer and have other effects like extra anesthesia. Post-op, its about not abusing the newly shrunken stomach.

My program is 2 week liquid, then 5-8 days pureed, then move to moist food for 2weeks, then regular.

And holding a blubbery liver back could also bruise it. We had an OP on here suffering from post-surgical liver problems. Think I'll listen to whatever my surgeons says and make my liver clean, lean and fit, even if it takes the dreaded liquid diet[emoji22]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
