Why wouldn't you be? Your body is starting to starve...and it's noticing.

You've been on a severely calorie restricted diet and are expending many more calories than usual trying to heal.

Some people are nauseated and don't have the sensation of hunger in the early days.

Many others could eat their own leg off they're so damned hungry.

I know I was.

When you start to include more foods and get better nutrition...you'll feel better and overall you will have less hunger.

But early days....hunger can be a bear.

Ive read that your body needs about 0.36g of Protein for every lb you weigh.

Are you getting enough protein in to cover your needs?x

That doesn't sound like enough to me but I'm a scientist, not a doctor. Might be worth giving them a call to double check quantities. Also explore Protein Water and experiment with caesin as that's protein but slow release so might keep you full longer x

I am post op day 4 and totally relate! I’m trying to drink more broth and hot herbal tea to keep the hunger feelings away. My program allows 2 Protein Shakes a day at this point with a Fluid goal of 64 oz and 60g of Protein. I’m moving up to full liquids in 2 days and can’t wait for soup!

I was hungry on the liquid diet. Now a month later I have no interest in food. I have to psyche myself up to eat anything. I don’t think the liquid phase is an accurate representation of how you’ll feel long term. Your body is still trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
