I've followed a pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks. I tried not to cheat, but I did eat some steak, chicken, and fish, no sauces. I don't really know if that's cheating if I didn't eat anything naughty haha. I've lost 15 pounds doing that, and I'm feeling really good.

My surgery is in 2 days. My insurance doesn't cover it, so I'm flying out to Tijuana to get it done. I'll be in Hospital Angeles, which is a very beautiful facility with only great reviews. I'll have 2 days in the hospital, a day in a hotel, and then I'm flying home. I'm not worried about the trip at all.

Though I'm acting tough and I'm absolutely excited, I'm still terrified of the surgery itself. I've never had a surgery before. I'm super healthy, apart from my fat, so the most I've ever had is blood drawn. I'm trying to psyche myself up. I'm covered in tattoos, and I keep thinking to myself if I'm fine getting those, I'll be fine with a surgery. I'm hoping that my pain tolerance isn't going to forsake me and I'll be a crying, blubbering mess.

What was your surgery like? How would you describe the pain and feeling you had?

I did not experience much pain because the operation was done laparoscopically. I refused to take any pain medicine after I left the recovery room. I didn't really need any because my pain was low. (Also I have a high pain tolerance). The important thing to remember is to Walk, Walk, Walk, every 2 hours round the clock after surgery. Most of the pain that patients experience is gas pain and walking helps you pass the gas.

The only pain I felt was from my incisions . The GREAT News is it didn’t last long. At. All.

Another vote for not much pain. My surgery was super easy. James's advice about walking is critical. Get up and stroll as soon as you can and you will feel better. I have had dental procedures that were more painful and debilitating than this surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
