Feeling guilty about eating

Recommended Posts

I can't help it. I do feel guilty about everything I put into my mouth. I was sleeved on 12/19 and have lost 23 lbs. But the last 2 weeks have been only 2lbs a week. Dr is good with it but I am not. I would have thought with as little as I eat the weight loss would be more. I drink Water and manage 60 to 70 grams of Protein. I am trying.not to think this way but I can't seem to help it.

Hi @DaleAnn

I was bypassed14 December and my weight loss is now at 2 pounds a week - the surgeon said that is about right for me at this point. I do find that this weight loss is way easier than “dieting” - my urge seems to be to eat healthily. Is yours? If that persists, then relatively effortless 2 lbs a week over several months is very healthy...

I am using myfitnesspal app to track my calories, and my Protein intake. Maybe that might be useful? Many folk here say building up to about 1000 calories a day is a good level to just keep that steady weight loss going. I try to figh any temptation to “not eat” if I am below 800 calories at this point - don’t want to replace an overeating/stress eating disorder with a new one!

47lbs lost is amazing - you enjoying new clothes?

Eating is necessary and normal, don't feel guilty for eating. Be kind to yourself.

Feeling guilty about eating is a step toward a different kind of eating disorder :(. Don't swap one for the other. (It happens!)

Now...if you want to feel guilty about eating junk or not doing any exercise...you have my blessing. LOL.

But if you're eating good healthy food in appropriate portions...you need to knock that off right now:)

I think everyone stresses a little with this whole ordeal. You don't want all your efforts to be in vain and patience can be hard. Hang in there...sounds like things are going very well:)

Thanks for the support. I eat healthy. I eat Greek yogurt no fat kind, Protein Shakes and chicken. I don't have control over portions as the sleeve really limits the amount. Its just that the weight isn't coming off so, I think I am doing something wrong. Then when I do eat it isn't a pleasant experience. I used to enjoy food. No more. Now it is only something I have to do and I don't really now how to feel about that.

2 pounds a week, but you say the weight isn't coming off? Now's the time to think back to before your sleeve - how easy was it to consistently lose 2 pounds a week before? Sounds like you're doing everything right and your surgeon is happy and believes you're normal. You're understandably wanting the fat to melt away - I'm right there with you. But please be kind to yourself, and please eat. food is fuel and you still need that. Your body will respond. And 2 pounds a week is a fantastic steady loss and will help maintain in the long run.

It will change. One, you'll hopefulyl maintain a bit of that feeling of not caring so much about what you eat any longer. I eat a lot of the same stuff (chicken salad, tuna salad, lettuce salads, yogurt, etc) on a regular basis and I don't get tired of it. I'm actually happy I don't stress so much about needing to get this and that and a host of other things from the store. There are times when eating is a chore, or you take that one bite that was too big and leaves you feeling blah for the next hour. It takes some time but you'll get used to it. It's normal to go through phases like this.

And honestly...get used to the scale being your friend and most hated enemy at times. Everyone loses at different rates. Some months are better than others. Just don't get so hung up on the scale that it becomes your only means of judging how well you're doing. There are a lot of non scale victories that I've had in the past year that meant way more to me than seeing the scale change on a weekly basis.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
